Over at Reelradio.Com they put up two or three new "vintage" radio shows each Sunday. One of today's shows was John Paul Roberts' show on WQAM Miami, FL from Wednesday night, December 18, 1968. The first song is Curtis Mayfield and the Impressions singing "This is My Country". Too bad Curtis didn't live to see President Obama!

Anyway, WQAM was HEAVILY promoting the Miami Pop Festival after almost every song. What's odd is that I didn't hear any mention of Hendrix! The ad copy touts "31 groups including Steppenwolf, Boxtops, Marvin Gaye, Turtles, Iron Butterfly, Canned Heat and others". I wonder if Hendrix was a late addition to the lineup? At any rate its pretty funny to hear them promoting Miami Pop as "three days of sunshine" given what we know now about the rainy weather they had.

CORRECTION - Ok, I get it now. This Miami Pop Festival was December 28, 29 and 30, 1968. According to Just Ask the Axis, the Miami Pop Festival that Jimi played was earlier that same year on May 18, 1968.
