While searching Ebay for the ELL Saucer Cover lp, I came across this Barclay ELL which I have never seen before. Anybody recognize it? How rare or common is it?

That "Ladyland" cover has been on my site in the "Alternate Covers" section for about 8 years.
It was from a Barclayre-double album re-release series . There was the original edition with Jimi's finger pointing at a photo of himself, then came this one. At the same time there was the "AYE"/"Axis" double set with the Jean Giraud illustration which was later used for "Voodoo Soup". Other Barclay albums from the series with lavish illustrations can be seen on the pages here:
http://pagesperso-orange.fr/hendrix.guide/alternates.htm

The Giraud cover is at the top, then further down you can see "Jimi Hendrix 3" (BOG + Cry Of Love), "JH4" (In The West + War Heroes) then "Loose Ends" and "Greatest Hits" in a similar fantasy style.
I have no idea of the real value but I have put up record evaluation links on my "Links" page.

However, I think Roland was referring to how rare this issue is, not it's value (even though they 'sometimes' go hand-in-hand).

I've had mine for decades---20, 30 years? not sure---and that's one of my all-time "alternate" images of Jimi (along with the poster showing the colorful wires & cables plugging into his head). Love that instrument he's playing, cosmic stuff, to infinity....and beyond.

Hey Purple Jim
Really like your site,to me it's been a great reverence the last 4 years, especially the unofficial isue section, which gives a great insight of the doodlings of the "Jefrey Estate" isues. And the "Cover" section is excelent too (as you might have noticed,I got my avator from that section) So Thanks a lot & Keep up the good work.

A closer look at the illustration, from a Rock & Fol front cover:

Fwiw I've seen the illustration from the original artwork (though not the original itself), may even have it on a file some place, if I think of it I'll check around.

I was a huge "Heavy Metal" (the comic art mag) fan going back to the late 70s and Moebius was one of my fave artists who appeared there with some regularity, I had no idea until long after that it was he who also did that Barclay cover.

…Moebius was one of my fave artists

It was Philippe Druillet who painted the "Ladyland" cover, Mobius (Jean Giraud) did the "AYE"/"Axis" double set.

Ah, yes, thank you for clearing those cobwebs, haven't thought about this in years and years. Nice stuff on your site too, btw.

And great stuff Ayler, thanks for posting it.

. . . and I'm still looking for the saucer cover. Much as like the Druillet "Machine Gun" ELL cover, I think I'm more interested in owning the Saucer cover because, if I'm not mistaken, it was released during Jimi's lifetime? Correct me if I'm wrong. Thanks.

What do you mean by the "saucer" cover ?

Is this the saucer cover?? It's not Barclay though.
I think I have it in better quality somewhere.

That was the cover for the UK Track release "Electric Ladyland - Part 1", which was to dodge the rejection by some retailers of the naked ladies double album cover.
That is my favourite Hendrix sleeve and as you can see, I use the band shot as my avatar !

A friend of mine is asking - who was the artist of the saucer cover?

On the sleeve it says: "Cover by David King" (who designed the covers for Track's Axis and Ladyland). However I'm sure if he actually did the illustration himself.
