Didn't Jimi do some recordings with the Last Poets, thanks to an Alan Douglas organised session ?

Where can I find the "longer vocal edit" ?! ? The only version I have is the short edit!

Still doesn't really answer my question though. Does anyone know where I can actually find the "longer edit"? Does anyone here have it? Has anyone here actually heard it?

It's here. I think. I don't know if a longer version exists.

Yes, I said that. Is this a forum or what ?

To reiterate once again ;>

The vocal version on the CD is 8:47 long. (There is also a 4:51 "radio edit" on the CD which is worthless to me, and a 4:09 "instrumental edit" which might be of some use to samplers and remixers but again is of little interest to me.)

What I would love to hear is S1349, the reputed 10:39 min "longer vocal" edit. Where did Ben Franklin find this? Where can I find it?

Wasn't Doriella originally released as a Vinyl EP? Does anyone here own the vinyl? Can you check and see if the original vinyl version is 10:39 minutes?

Thanks

Accodring to Univibes magazine, the so called "longer vocal edit" was released in USA in 1992 under the title "Retro Fit" as a single two-track CD by Celluloid Records and produced by Alan Douglas. The long vocal edit contains some more bass & drum loops and is mixed a bit differently.

I just checked my original Celluloid 12" single and it lasts 8 minute something, just like the CD.

So the 10:39 version is some kind of stretched version of the original created solely by Alan Douglas? If that's true, then its probably nothing to get too worked up over.

Doriella Du Fontaine "longer vocal edit" "Retro Fit" 1992
<<<<

Besides the dj mixing, there's a serious problem with this new version. bm's kbd is lower, which is not a bad thing, but they added a loud heavy bass, which makes jh's bass almost inaudible. the new short instrumental mix has the same heavy bass added.
the cd says that it was mixed by material, so maybe bill laswell was in charge. he did a great job on remixing miles davis for the panthalasa cd, without adding new instruments. so it's surprising that he would ruin doriella (if he was the one who ruined it).

I have it but I'm not home. It looks like the question has already been addressed, but I'll check mine when I get home 4 U anyway.

I have the Celluloid- and the Restless/Metrotone-discs.If someone wants to have it in flac, please send me a pm.

Doriella comes in several versions, but from what I hear, the entire 13 minute jam has never been released in full.http://www.lanceta.es/jimi-hendrix/HOME/contents.htm#cnt=/jimi-hendrix/HOME/_aux/discs/Hendrix-Lightnin__Rod-Miles_-_Doriella_Du_Fontaine.htm

A 10 or 13minutes-version would be very interesting.

Just wondering if anyone could confirm this...
Are the track timings of the original vinyl 12" release as indicated on the labels correct or incorrect?
Label side A says 9:37. What is the actual track time?
Label side B says 4:13. What is the actual track time?
Thanks!

Well now that this thread is open again, I'll ask again - is there any truth to the recently re-circulated story that the entire vocal was added after Jimi died? I really doubt it for reasons I've stated in another thread.

There are a lot of different Celluloid releases that feature DDF. I bought this one years ago because it seemed to have a longer version of DDF:
http://www.discogs.com/Last-Poets-Retro-Fit/release/1421274
The extra minute turned out to be a repeat of the intro in the remix.

I really like this release:
http://www.discogs.com/Lightnin-Rod-Hustlers-Convention-With-Doriella-Du-Fontaine-And-OD/release/561928

It has the CD single added to the 1973 LP, and puts all the Lightnin' Rod jail toasts in the same context.

Personally my guess would be that Jimi and Buddy recorded their parts together with LR/Alafia Pudim/Jalaluddin Mansur Nuriddin because the instruments really follow the vocals, as pointed out elsewhere on CTT (can't find the exact link:apathy:). The story that LR added his vocals in 1973 dates from 1996. Maybe LR did overdubs?

The elephant in the room is, did Douglas get Mr. Rod to rap over an old instrumental, much as he did with Leary?
