the picture on the wall behind Jimi is of the River Thames with Windsor Castle in the background,so maybe it is the ThamesHotel/Ricky Tick?[the Thames Hotel would be in that picture as well]

Sounds good, looks more like a pub/hotel than a night club. But the picture is quite blurry and the boat... does rather look like a chinese junk/sampan? the date is good for the clothes too 17th feb.

It looks like a hotel, it's true, but which one?

I think it's a 'sight-seeing'boat[you can see almost identical ones today in the same location].I live about 5 miles from this location ,it's now called Browns bar.I've emailed a guy who's starting a website dedicted to the Windsor RickyTick clubs,I will post his reply should I get one.

Yeah I'm looking forward to that too ! Thankyou.

These photos from the New Cellar Club 1st Feb 1967 show the same guitar but possibly with less scuffs/dings so it could be after then .......

If that is true then that narrows it down to these possible venues ........

Hounslow, Ricky Tick
London, The Ram Jam Club
Windsor, Ricky Tick/Thames Hotel
London, The Blarney Club
London, Knuckles Club
London, Scotch Of St James

Hi all,

Funny you should start a thread on this now. Not long ago I was researching these pictures as well. The pictures were taken by a German lady called Petra Niemeier.

I narrowed it down to February 1967.

At first I thought it was 12 February in Stockport. The location is called The Sinking Ship Clubland, and as there's a picture of a boat on the wall, well you do the math.

For now I would like to stick to Aidan's suggestion that it is the Thames Hotel gig of 17 February. If the picture is indeed of Windsor Castle then that's good enough for me.

I hope the Ricky Tick guy will give confirmation of this, would mean a lot to me!

Cheers,

Enemal.

Oh really, these were shot by Petra as well? I did not know that! Petra also shot the beautiful pics of Jimi taking a nap in her London flat in early 67 as far as I know. Does she still live? I think she was from Hamburg as well...

Yeah, I should have checked there 1st. I thought I'd seen that photo before somewhere;-) What appears to be windows in the photo makes me think of a hotel rather than a nightclub? We can see the lower (which is upper in the photo, as Jimi's is upside down) control knob in one of Mike's photos and it's missing it's plastic cover - as are the lower two controls in this other photo, but the upper one appears to be there in both Mike's and this other photo. It's a pity no photographer is credited. The caption to two of the photo's in Ebony says: Jimi Hendrix (opposite page and right), is deep into a song, Purple Haze while his guitar sends forth an ear assaulting mixture of blues and psychedelic sound at a club in London, where he lives. Windsor is very close to London

Windsor to Central London is about a 40 min drive today,in 1967 probaby a lot less!Incidently I went to the Browns Bar[Thames Hotel] Windsor on Sunday morning to look for any clues but found none.Still no reply from the RickyTick guy I emailed.Does anybody know if any pics/tapes from Slough[my hometown]have ever surfaced?

Reply from the RickyTick guy 'Hi Aidan
Sorry for the delay in getting back to you but I've been trying to find some of my notes from the time. Even now I've only been partially successful.

Yes I'm pretty sure that picture was taken at the Thames Hotel. The posters over Jimi's shoulder confirm it was a Ricky Tick gig and the picture on the wall does look like a view across the river. My memories of the Thames Hotel are pretty vague and I can't actually remember picture on the wall but it's very likely that they were there.

The one thing I can confirm from the notes I have found is that Jim was at the Thames Hotel on Friday 17 February 2007[sic]. That would see to tie in with the file name of the jpg.

I'd been interested to know where the photo came from and if you have any more like it.

Cheers

Martin'

Hi guys ,
the photos are from a set of thirteen pictures which I obtained from a collector local to me. Here are some of them below. I have uploaded all of them to my webspace and the filenames are 1.jpg to 13.jpg so you can download them with this link (just change the photo number at the end to get them all one at a time) http://www.hendrixnortheast.pwp.blueyonder.co.uk/hendrix1967/1.jpg etc.

Response from RickyTick Windsor contact, having shown him all of the above pictures..
Hi Aidan

Apologies again for the delay in getting back to you.

I'm pretty sure that they were all taken at the Thames Hotel. I'm pretty sure that in one of them I can see a girl that I met at the Thames Hotel who became my first wife. I'm not absolutely certain but it was a long time ago!

Cheers

Martin
