So where did these mixes come from? Are the vocals artificially removed recently, or are they genuine mixes?

i looked at these once for a JP article that never got finished... They seem to be generated from the official stereo mixes using a L-R mix to produce a mono track. Since vocals are down the middle on the stereo mixes of these songs, they are greatly reduced in volume on the resulting anti-phase fold-down.

one version i have is straight mono, the other has had some differential EQ applied to the two channels to produce some fake stereo. in any event, this is certainly a fan effort.

These "karouke" mixes are sometimes fun to listen to.

i don't mean this disrespectfully; what is the importance of this if it is merely a fold-down?

Thanks, looking forward to listening to this.

well, i guess the argument would be that it's easier to hear the instrumental parts without the vocals, and the listener may notice some details that were missed before. it's not important in the sense of being a true remix from the multitracks, but some people will get something out of it.
