Funky Drummer Cleanup ATTEMPT Version

EH WMA - FLAC - Fairy Dust - FLAC

1 Straight Ahead
2 Ezy Ryder
3 Hey Baby
4 Spanish Castle Magic
5 Red House (partial)

************************************************** ********************************

First of all I will replicate a discussion posted by johanincr, so people are aware of the limitations of the source of the recording of this show.
The lineage has been discussed on CTT by johanincr (as follows - edited:)

This show was partially recorded and surfaced in WMA format in early 2006.

It turned up on the EH site in Real Audio format, another lossy conversion....

The original recording had a 'echo from the future' in the left channel, since the recording itself appears to be mono this channel was dropped in the edit version.

1 Straight Ahead
2 Ezy Ryder
3 Hey Baby
4 Spanish Castle Magic
5 Red House

I think this was one of the best concerts of 1970.
Jimi appears to be in a very good mood which is reflected in his playing. Finally, an audience that doesnt scream for 'Wild Thing/Foxy Lady/Purple Haze/burn that guitar Jimi!'
inbetween all songs. This version of Hey Baby is -afaik- the only live version that has a intro and an ending, its not the usual ending where it would be a medley with the next song - or drum solo.

So, the show is really good, the audio really isnt.

FUNKY DRUMMER - WHAT I DID

As I agree with the quality of this show from a musical point of view -since hearing I wanted to clean it up as much as I could.
Very difficult indeed - and the results are not great, but, at least for the first three tracks much better than before.
Spanish Castle Magic sounds pretty terrible, and this is due to the fact mainly of having to lose one of the channels due to echo.
(Red House too)
Basically I downloaded a torrent of original FLAC saved WMA source that has been floating around online via EH site...
The source will never be good, but starting as WMA is pretty bad...alas...
I did my own messing around with EQing and channels...etc etc...for many hours...
For the first two songs Straight Ahead and Ezy Ryder I used both channels...
The other three Hey Baby, Spanish Castle Magic and Red House - I had to use only the right channel due to the distracting echo problem.

Here is my version of attempted cleanup.
I spent particular time on Hey Baby as I really like this version...
Can't say I got great results - and I think the first three sound best - it was particularly difficult to get Spanish Castle Magic to listenable quality...
I grant that it may not be to everyone's tastes - I had to go to town with EQing etc...but it certainly betters what I had previously...
Hope you agree...

Regards
Funky Drummer

Hmmm. Haven't got it yet, I'll just grab it. Maybe I can do something to it.

Peace, thanks

I HAVE done something to it...there is little more you can do to it...I wouldn't recommend any further processing...it will be negative returns...

Yeah man, I know. But maybe someone could have another go at EQing it...

Thanks for the upload and the effort.

Those who want to do their own EQ should try it with the original files.
To do the EQ on already EQ-d version is not a good idea.

I agree, that's not what I was implying :-)
