Don't make the same mistake I did; don't download this show! WV copied the ATM version of this show and upped it to their website (I'm not kidding). If you have the trader's version, you already have this show, so why give $$ to Wolfgang's Vault for being lazy in this case.

Is there proof of WV upping the ATM version? I can't believe that, they've had this show for a long time. Not sure when the ATM version became available, though. The FLAC download was only introduced a few years ago. Anyway, we have the whole recording with the Box Of Gypsys, right?
Their Winterland set also seems to be copied from ATM discs - it includes the audience recordings where the soundboard is missing.
The legality of this site must be in question - wonder how they are allowed to continue.

F'k "legality" how about "ethics":-)

They got caught out a while ago doing this. They were emailed about it, I cant remember what their response was but I'm pretty sure they denied everything.

"Not sure when the ATM version became available, though. The FLAC download ....."
Hi guys, what's ATM and what's FLAC stand for?
I'm actually a pretty smart fellow. I know you wouldn't know it by my question.
I probably could look up a Hendrix discography and figure it out(?) but I'm too lazy I guess.
I don't like it when everyone abr. the words.

Archived Traders' Material
The Highest Quality Hendrix-recordings available in Traders' circuits
All recordings in theArchived Traders' Material (ATM) series are taken from the lowest generation masters available, and they have all been digitally restored unless otherwise indicated.
ATM discs are made by fans on a non-profit basis. If you've paid for them, it means that someone somewhere have been charging money for something they've obtained for free. In other words: You've been ripped off.
FLAC are lossless files.

If this is true, it is a shocking disgrace! For once I planned to download it so thanks for the warning.
But what is the Vault all about? They should have taped everything and as far as I know it was Eddie Kramer who started to do that at the Fillmore, with a recorder below the stage (and that is how he got asked to record the Woodstock festival, as one of the pioneers in making live recordings).

Experience Hendrix obtained all the BOG master tapes a year or so ago From Paul Allen in Seattle WA, so they are the only ones who now have the multi tracks of the 4 concerts recorded during Dec/Jan 1969-1970.
Whatever Wolfgangs vault have I bet isn't from Experience Hendrix.
I'll wait until the official release. (If that ever happens)

I find the vault pretty strange as well. Why don't they put up all concerts that were recorded at the Fillmore? THAT would be worthwhile. Instead they have all kinds of random stuff, or concerts that have been in circulating anyway.
What I do like is the Fillmore posters you can buy from 'em (though only the ones with recent reprints are affordable)

I seem to recall years ago that the the 'Vault' was an outgrowth of Bill Graham's estate. I believe everything offered there are recordings of shows that occurred only at the venues he owned. Also, Bill's original name was 'Wolfgang'.

That is true, it is known that Graham had made 2 track tapes at the Fillmores of a lot of his favorite bands. Not sure where Hendrix stood but we know he loved the Dead and Airplane. I would guess that the ATM discs are a copy of Grahams 2 track tapes and not the other way around. Many bands, Dead, Allmans, Dominos, Etc have used his tapes to plug gaps in theirs for live albums. Those ATM's are certainly not from multitracks.

so, you mean to say that the Vault's BOG download is multi-track?

Bill Graham loved Hendrix. Remember he said BOG was the best music he ever heard played at that venue.

Thanks. Where is it documented so I can read it? I am not fluent in all of this historically as I am with the SF bands. I'd like to do the research if someone could point me in the right direction. Thanks again, jd.

I remember they had Winterland feb. 1968 up for streaming before it went on Dagger..
On the topic of Bill Graham I can recommend his autobiography My life inside rock and out (which he was working on when he passed away, it was finished and edited by Robert Greenfield).
Bill Graham led a very, very fascinating life and the book sure shows it! Lots of great Fillmore related stories in it, too.

Thanks, that's what I needed to know.

Most, if not all, of the Hendrix biographies (literature, as well as video) have references to Graham. Too many to recall, but one item that sticks with me is that when the smoke cleared at Monterey The Jimi Hendrix Experience had no other gigs booked! As I recall it was Graham that came to the rescue and offered up one of his venues to keep the momentum going. I seem to remember the source of this fact being Chandler on a video, but it could be from one of the books.
p.s. I'm hypothesizing that no additional gigs were booked after Monterey due to management waiting to see what Hendrix's debut reception would be.

These gigs at the Fillmore West right after Monterey were also the same gigs where the EXP knocked the Jefferson Airplane off the bill, a nice little rep booster.
Those Fillmore West shows and the Golden Gate Park gig are the only other June '67 American shows I can think of off the top of my head.
Go Bill Graham!

I'm not sure how much proof is needed. This is actually not the first time this set has gone on sale, it first went up almost a year ago in April of 2010 (at a discounted price that is). That is when I purchased it and several of us compared it to the BTYB version. Each track matches up TO THE SECOND and there are even the same transitions in sound quality. I'm going to quote Doug Bell, one of members here, on this issue from last year (as I don't think he'll mind):
as jeff said, WV has the real stuff, they have access to BG's huge tape archive.
it's so unfortunate that they feel the need to water it down with poorer-quality
material that doesn't even come from them.
it hurts their credibility, which is a shame considering some of the amazing
things they have. numerous examples, for instance they put out a bunch of early
Airplane shows that nobody had. also some nice early Quicksilver. but mixed in
with poor stuff, people start to distrust them.
As for me, if you want to spend the $$ for this from WV, I certainly won't stop you, but I feel you'll just be flushing your cash away. They do have a lot of legit stuff in their archive and they may have the RIGHTS to release stuff like this BOG show through the Bill Graham archives, however in this case I think they just got lazy and took a fan's work instead of upping their own material. The WV download of this certainly isn't a multi track affair, in fact portion revert to almost "audience like" quality.

Go Bill Graham! They were at The Fillmore. Fillmore West didn't open until summer of 1968.
