Its my belief that the drummer on some of these recordings is maybe not Mitch Mitchell but rather the jazz drummer known as Randy Kaye who played with Jimi before the festival both at the house and the Tinker st cinema. Fellow Gypsy Sun and Rainbows member Juma Sultan has verified Randy Kayes' participation.

So remember Mitch Mitchell didn't even really jam with the group much before the festival. As I understand Jimi was playing alot of new material and the management didn't approve of his new sound. So they brought in Mitch and he played his hits. It seemed like Jimi wasn't really wanting to sing as much. He wanted to jam out. Not play pop tunes. It was said that Jimi idolized jazz great Roland Kirk. So he was clearly desiring to expand his musical horizons. Mitch Mitchell said in an interview that the Gypsy Sun Rainbows band was a "makeshift band". I feel very much the opposite. The Jimi Hendrix Experience was really the "makeshift band". Noel wasn't even a real bassist. He was hired for his hair. And Mitch Mitchell as good as he may have been was never really creatively on par with Jimi.
