This may sound like a very silly question to many of you.

But where is the complete "Madison Square Garden" (Madison Square Garden 1970-01-28) film?

I read in the book "Plug Your Ears" (Kees de Lange, Ben Valkhoff, 1993) that there must a 15 minute video of this concert.

But on the "Plug your ears" website it is said that there's only a 16mm 1 minute colour video. But strangely, the 15 minute audio source from the film master is mentioned, while the video is not.
http://osiris.cs.kun.nl/~tvdw/pye/index.html (for the website)
http://osiris.cs.kun.nl/~tvdw/pye/1970.html (for the actual page)

Has the complete video actually disappeared?

Someone synced some scenes of the footage from 1969-05-18 on youtube! You all should check it out: http://youtube.com/watch?v=Jg-pO4lrDG0

This guy has even more synced footage worth checking out. Don't miss!

Exactly, there's 15 minutes audio and only about 45 seconds (with interruptions) of very bad quality film. There are actually two audio sources: video-soundtrack and audience recording. There's even a merge of these two sources made by Johanincr (Earth Blues). Johan also made a complete color BOG video with this 45 seconds of MSG video synchronized with the stero-merged-sound included.
That's all .

anybody ever call the phone number on this video (212-929-3116)-- I did and the guy tells me he is the owner of the tape (original 16mm negative footage) he went on to say he has it with out the double exposure- he has said he has not sold it to EH. He also told me he has complete audio of Jimi and the stones (backstage) perhaps hes one of the Maysales brothers (I dont know). Maybe he was putting me on-- but I contacted EH about it-- they wrote back saying they would be interested (that confirmed they didnt have it) I called the guy back (called himself James) and relayed the info. This was over a year and half ago. I rem mentioning to Emil (JPIO). Thats all I have.

Of course I remember our converstion about it. However, what exactly he meant by "complete" audio of the Stones/Jimi MSG '69 backstage footage is debatable. In any case worthy effort. Too bad you couldn't convince him to send you a copy. Maybe you can try again, he might have changed his mind about it and may send you a sample at least...?

Okay, that means that the complete video does exist, is owned by a fan, but not freely circulating. Thanx for the info! I was just curious ;-)

Hey, Doc, I'm not sure any of the above means that footage exists. The vid just posted with the phone# is MSG but not BOG. I've heard the whole audio but never seen (vid) or heard of anyone claiming to have the complete vid footage.

It would be strange to record 15 minutes worth at MSG and then pack up, I would have thought the whole concert was filmed but I don't recall Experience Hendrix ever talking about this gig as to being in their vaults. I would love to know what EH do have in their vaults film wise. Didn't Eddie Kramer say recently that there is a sizeable amount of film that they are working on ?

The MSG footage in question was the BOG, 1/28/70. There wouldn't be anything to record/shoot footage of beyond approx. 20 min.

Jimi's band wasnt the only band that played there that night.

We have two audio sources for this show, the audience tape and the 'film' sound source.
So the person(s) who got the 'film' sound source first (???) might know who/where it came from.
That all happened 25+ years ago...

The film might not exist anymore. The film might be lost but still in existence. EH might have the complete film.
3 scenarios, 1 outcome :(

What wouldn't surprise me is that E.H. bought the whole show and archived it, never to be seen in our lifetime. While it would be fascinating for the 'real' fans to see it, i don't think janie & co would like the general public to see jimi in such a drugged up mess.

I was going to suggest the same scenario, if that footage does exist. I notice on the EH IOW In From The Storm audio you can't hear him dumping the Strat even though the track plays long enough for it to be audible. I also saw a YT vid that doesn't show it. Was that edited out on the EH DVD release, anybody?

The EH IOW has it still intact, actually with the added angles for 'In From The Storm' there's even a different view if him tossing it down. I thought when the EH Berkeley came out they might have taken out the 'Give us a minute to get rid of these joints..." with Jimi taking a hit at the beginning of the 2nd show.(the smoking a joint in the limo scene was not added to the 'all existing footage":) tho' as seen in AFAJH).

You're absolutely right, I was thinking of the 1969 footage from MSG where some time coded footage has turned up on youtube - someone described it as having being edited with a chainsaw.
