    Re: New Dagger Release

Ordered. I just kicked myself for never ordering the other Dagger releases.

    Re: New Dagger Release

Yeah, on some tracks you can hear a small group of people talking, perhaps Carol Shiroky among them.
Last Night is the Mar-Keys cover:

    Re: New Dagger Release

Hopefully the location and dates are from tape boxes or other reliable documentation, that would settle a few question marks. I don't see why the tracks couldn't have been recorded in New Jersey;...

Re: 1967-08-08 Studio 76, New York

Get That Feeling would be from the July session; Jimi plays fuzz bass on that track, not guitar.

    Re: Jimi on Bass

He was great, but he played the bass like a guitarist, like Noel. Billy Cox is a "real" bass player.

    Re: Jimi on Bass

    Long Hot Summer Night
Apparently Jimi added some bass to Spanish Castle Magic and Bold as Love
The Curtis Knight jam (Get That Feeling/Odd Ball/Day Tripper/Flashing/Future Trip)
  8. Re: Who plays on Jimi/ Jimmy Jam on second guitar ?

It's Dave Holland to these ears; I've listened to him a great deal on Miles' recordings, and it's Dave's style. Roland was the bass player of Buddy Miles Express.

Re: What They Said About THE MAN

Keith and Neil are both very pathetic old buggers with slivers of talent left and can f**k off :-).
  11. Re: 1966-01-21 Atlantic Studios, New York City, NY

I think Ray Sharpe is supposed to play the lead guitar on this. Which leaves the chord work to Dupree and Jimi with the dampened string part, "chucka chucka...".

Re: Janie on 2017 release plans

The muffled sound of Jimi's vocals (due to the instrument case foam around his mike) always bothered me in addition to the drums. It seems unlikely that they can create a worthwhile official release...

    Re: Voodoo Soup

I like it a lot; not seeing it as "definite" in any respect. The alternate mixes are fresh and sound very good, especially Angel where Jimi's voice is up front and beautiful.
    And yes, Midnight is...

Colin Allen on Jimi's NY girlfriends

This is not strictly about Jimi, but I thought it was interesting. Colin Allen is a drummer, and his song Medicine Jar appeared on a Wings album. "Janette" is of course Jeanette Jacobs.

    One thing...

Re: What They Said About THE MAN

Somone tell the Zep people it's not Johnny Winter either; it's Rick Derringer, and Mick Cox? on third guitar.
Can anyone identify the where the quote from White Summer appears?
  16. Re: Fillmore East, Band Of Gypsys: mysteries that still remain ...

I feel that Jimi carried ANY band he played in. He was the king!
  17. Re: Fillmore East, Band Of Gypsys: mysteries that still remain ...

Very possible, mixed with Ray Charles' Mary Ann.

    Re: The "kidnapping" in Shokan

Ephron is a shady guy, and was apparently behind the This Flyer boot. But the same could be said for Juma Sultan and a host of other characters hanging around Shokan like James Scott.

  19. Re: Fillmore East, Band Of Gypsys: mysteries that still remain ...

Maybe the track known as "I Got To See You" is the Clarence Carter tune "Take It Off Him And Put It On Me", which was rehearsed and recorded at Baggy's. They surely played every other tune they...

A large chunk of the BOG “We Gotta Live Together” if of course Joe Hicks' "Home Sweet Home", which was written and produced by Sly. And then we have the "Sing A Simple Song" riff; the only original...

Re: John McLaughlin on Hendrix and Miles Davis

Only Wild Thing, sadly. It's interesting that it was released at the tail end of 1968. This would mean many people saw Jimi burning guitars on film throughout 1969, and perhaps came to except him to...

Like Clapton, he still feels competitive with Jimi though. This is from the latest Uncut mag:

  25. Re: New Betty Davis album with McLaughlin, Hancock, Shorter, Mitch Mitchell!

Wow...just wow, unexpected! Automatic buy for sure. The album was to be called "Zonked!", and Miles talked about it in interviews at the time.
