    At His Best?

    At His Best?
    Mike Ephron Sessions (ATM 193-194)
    Flac

For me, these recordings are the worst Jimi sessions I've heard ..

Jimi's House, Shokan, New York, September 13, 1969
Extraordinary Archives Traded Material series of the highest quality Hendrix recordings available in traders' circuits.
All recordings in the ATM series are taken from the lowest generation masters available, and they have all been digitally restored unless otherwise indicated.
    Thanks to Hans-Peter Johnsen

    Disc 1:
    1. Jam 1 - Part 1: Gypsy Boy > New Rising Sun (aka Young Jimi)
    2. Jam 1 - Part 2: Free Thunder
    3. Jam 1 - Part 3: Swift's Wing
    4. Jam 1 - Part 4: Down Mean Blues
    5. Fried Cola
    6. Jam 2: Feels Good
    7. Monday Morning Blues
    8. Jam 3: Lift-Off
    9. Jam 4: Madagascar

    Disc 2:
    1. Key To The Highway (aka Jimi Is Tender Too)
    2. Cave Man Bells
    3. Stepping Stone (aka She Went to Bed With My Guitar)
    4. Villanova Junction (aka Strokin' A Lady On Each Hip)
    5. Earth Blues (aka Giraffe)
    6. Baby Chicken Strut

This set features all material found on the 4 Sagapan LPs "Jimi Hendrix At His Best Vol. 1-3" and "This Flyer".
The original recordings were edited and spread across these albums (and others) in a variety of mixes.
Here the tracks have been spliced back together to create as complete as possible songs/jam.

    Re: At His Best?

Hm, I don't really get the review from BFS...

    Jam 1 (22:10)
    - Gypsy Boy / New Rising Sun (13:45)
    - Free Thunder (9:55)
    - Swifts Wing (7:05)
    - Down Mean Blues (3:20)
    - Fried Cola (3:25)

The timings do not total up to 22:10. The review also says "This gives an actual time of 26:60 (?) but if you add the individual tracks they come up to 37:41 due to overlapping".

Could someone explain where the overlaps are? I am primarily interested in getting the recording as it was played, without overlaps. The torrent is not complete yet, so I can't listen to it yet...

    Thanks!
    Jerry

    Re: At His Best?

I just received the "at his best" volume 3 LP
and I'm working on getting the first two volumes soon
so, when I do, I'll upload them how they are on vinyl
the tracks are split and named differently than this, in different order, etc.
and the running times are probably different
who knows, maybe my vinyl rips will even sound better

    Re: At His Best?

Thanks to whoever the helpful (re)seeder is. I know this is going to suck. Years ago I was in a record store and bought a used copy of "At His Best, Vol. 2" for $5. I got home and couldn't wait to put it on the turntable.

The needle didn't stay on the record for very long. Maybe it won't sound "as shitty" 20 years later. Considering what others have written about this it is probably as bad as I remember.

After hearing this again for the first time in ~20 years, I wholeheartedly agree. Horrid.

    But thank you!

Thanks for this! Hoping I can use these to patch up the SagaPan "At His Best" 2-CD set I bought yesterday. Most of the material on the SagaPan set sounds fine, but "She Went To Bed With My Guitar" has a ton of digital damage; I'm keeping my fingers crossed that I can edit bits of the one from here in to replace the damaged stuff.

The ATMs actually make the Sagapan stuff redundant - everything is on there and in much better quality...

I heard "Young Jim" for the first time today, and my jaw dropped - Jimi was playing Spinal Tap's "Jazz Odyssey"! XD

Awesome! At least it means I wont feel compelled to buy the vinyl records when I see them. I have the first volume, and it truly is awful.
