1970-09-03 Copenhagen [funkydrummer New Source Cleanup and Merge v1.0]

    K.B.Hallen, Copenhagen, Denmark - 3 September 1970
[funkydrummer cleanup and re-merge of (mostly) NEW SOURCE Copenhagen tapes]

The Sources listed are with the new revised numbers [see CTT Copenhagen six source torrent for details]

Of the six sources available, Sources 1,2 and 4 [as revised by JWV] are the best quality. Except that Source 1 has really bad speed fluctuations, so (If I remember correctly, as this was re-done over many months...)

1 Stone Free [New Sources 2,4] - with edited intro from source 5.
2 Foxy Lady [New Sources 1,2,4]
3 Message to Love [Sources 2,4]
    4 Hey Baby [Sources 1,2,4]
    5 All Along the Watchtower[Sources 2,4]
    6 Machine Gun [Sources 2,4]
    7 Spanish Castle Magic/Drum solo [Sources 1,2,4]
    8 Ezy Ryder[Sources 1,2,4]
    9 Freedom [Sources 2,4]
    10 Red House* [Sources 1,3]
11 In From the Storm [Sources 1,3,4]
    12 Purple Haze* [Sources 1,3]
13 Voodoo Child (Slight Return)* [Sources 1,3]
    14 Hey Joe* [Sources 1,3]
    15 Fire* [Sources 1,3]
16 Bonus - Hey Baby [Source 1,2,4 Alternate Mix]

    * These versions are the same as my previous "old source" torrent. I made new merges, but as new source 2 post-Freedom is unavailable, the new mixes didn't sound that much different, and I preferred the old ones, so I switched them back.

Occasionally there is a bit of distortion, but these are all on the source tapes e.g. Stone Free, Message to Love.

Lineage: All the sources are from the six source torrent on CTT. Source numbers refer to new revised numbers in that torrent.

Lineage (all sources) - FLAC > Adobe Audition 3, Speed Correction, NR, EQ, Comp > FLAC (Merged as above)

OK, so this is not quite finished. Then again, with the new sources available, I could be mixing and merging forever...
Basically the best sources are 1,2 and 4 and when 2 cuts out, 3 is substituted.
As I have been working on this for months (off and on), I really wanted to "finish" it, that is, provide the best representation of the tapes possible at this time. I decided to keep a few tracks from my previous "old source" merge. Just because the merges take so long to get right...there wasn't much difference, although the new source 4 really did help brighten things up.
I WILL redo some of the last tracks at some stage, but not for a while. I just wanted to put this to bed for now.
These files are the product of scores of merges and submixes, I can only hope I have chosen the best ones...Also as they were done over many months, had to try and keep them sounding as uniform as possible...

Why did I not use all six sources? I try to merge only the best sources and mix as if it was a SBD recording. Merging six tapes just gets really messy, and you get diminishing returns piling noise on top of noise.

Did you use the 24 bit versions of the Copenhagen sources? No. Reason being I started the project before they became available, and was not in the mood to start all over again. There is no audible difference anyway - maybe in future, or maybe someone else can do it.

That said, there is room for improvement - so consider this a Version 1.0, and I will perhaps create new versions in future, but I just had to "finish" it - because if I didn't finish it over the holidays - it would never get done! It is tedious work, and I don't have much time these days.

NOTE - MY UPLOAD SPEED IS CAPPED and SLOW - PLEASE KEEP SEEDING when completed.

    Happy Holidays
    FD

Grabbing this now. I'd been listening to the "Vibratory" merge which ain't bad! But maybe this is even better since it seems to use newer sources.

I love the alternate mix for Hey Baby. Do you by any chance happen to have similar mixes of some of the other tracks? If so, I would very much like to hear them.

Ah - I think that was where I left Copenhagen I'm afraid...I don't think I can return to merging that again for awhile...in fact what is holding up the release of the full 1970 shows set - is that I haven't finished my latest merge of LA Forum - and I have been busy with other stuff, but I will get them out some time...

LA Forum merge! Nice! Will you include the pre- and post-gig audio that is out there?

Well, maybe - what source do you refer to exactly?
