Which Hendrix tapes are you listening right now?

    "Burning Desire"
One of the best Dagger IMHO! I hope the 2009 Dagger CD will be a studio one too...

Listened to Studio 70 Disk 3 of 11 last night. I love that one. Haven't converted anything new for a while so going back through the gems.

Right now listening to WSP 6-22-2001 Red Rocks. Any Panic fans out there? Great run of shows.

The last "Machine Gun" version is otherwordly. Some of the most extreme guitar parts from Jimi.

Noel about these tapes in 1991:

Michael Fairchild - Have you heard the new tapes that Chas Chandler has uncovered of the Experience that he's had for all these years? Weren't you going to re-do some of the rhythm with him?

Noel Redding - Yeah. We went to Newcastle and overdubbed everything about three years ago. I did nine tracks in a day. Mitchell took two weeks to do one track. There's a bunch of tracks on there that have never been heard, about ten I'd say. They're from the Are You Experienced? and Axis period. One track is like a party.

Michael Fairchild - The "Devil Jam?"

Noel Redding - No, that was done in Los Angeles in October, '68. There's a lot of songs that are related to other Hendrix-type songs. I think we do "Sunshine Of Your Love." Chas told me he's got enough unreleased stuff for three albums. But the album is already bogged down with legal stuff, so the tapes are at a stalemate. When they release them it's going to be like multi-platinum in about ten minutes. It's all unreleased stuff, not alternate takes of what's out there.

Toronto 5-3-1969. Great show. When I read the comments on the torrent a lot of clicks referenced so I avoided this one for a while. The guy who wrote that has got a player problem or his CD has problems. NO clicks on this one just great jams. Most of the May 69 shows are great.

Re: Which Hendrix tapes are you listening right now?

In celebration of the 4th of July, I've been listening to Vibratory's Atlanta Merge (sorry it's not available here on CTT). I've found it to be much more enjoyable than I'd anticipated. The bits and chunks of Atlanta that have been officially released never sounded (or looked) that good to me. And of course "Hey Baby" was a trainwreck. But when you hear the whole show in context, there's a lot to enjoy. On the whole, I like it better than Isle of Wight. And Vibratory's merge sounds really nice. I'm a big fan of Jimi's "Cry of Love" band, and Vibratory's merge is one of the best sounding shows from that tour. Jimi's playing is good to excellent throughout the show, despite the tuning problems, and with even a few amazing moments, like "the key won't unlock the door" sequence in Red House. And anyway, how many complete shows are out there with NO tuning problems? So I'm quite happy to have the complete Atlanta to listen to.

"69 Blues" - my own compilation of the best of the Albert Hall soundchecks with the Feb 69 tracks of The Chandler Project and completed with "Noel's Tune" and a couple of other tracks.
