    Software for making album art

Recently I've been making what I would call crude album art for some of my recordings. These mainly consist a picture with some script on them documenting what show it is. I use a Mac. I was wondering if anyone knows a good program that would allow me for example to essentially cut and paste say for example a pic of a concert and put the handbill from said show on the cover. Basically take a picture from a show and put a handbill or ticket on the picture to make the artwork look a little better. I hope this makes sense to somebody.

I think you're looking for a free software, or?
Try it on the Apple App Store. Under - Graphic & Design - you will find "Disc Cover Maker - Label Lite" as freeware.
I don't know the program, but it may be enough for you for creating some cover.
I personally use Adobe Illustrator and Photoshop, it's of course expensive only for a few cover.

The software is described as free. But it's not. Is only a demo version.
If you want to print, the software must be paid.
What a bullshit. I'm very sorry.

For cutting out elements use the preview on your Mac:
    (Sorry, all in german language.)
Step 1: draw a selection across the range that you want to save.
Step 2: to crop the area
Step 3: export the image as a JPG of the highest quality.
Now, you can place the image on the cover.
There will be similar programs for the PC.

How true, there is no JPG option for any of the Cover-maker software.
If you don't want printing, the way below is maybe good enough:
    1. Save the document as an PDF.
    2. Open the PDF in Acrobat and save as a JPG (Save as -> Images ->JPEG
I don't know whether it works in Acrobat Reader. I use the Acrobat Pro version.
    3. Then open the JPG in preview, cut it out and finish.
