1966-05-11 Allegro Studios? 1650 Broadway, New York, NY

    Wednesday 11? May 1966
New York City, Allegro Studios? 1650 Broadway, New York, USA
    Producer Lonnie Youngblood
Probably on, or close to this date Hendrix plays on a Lonnie Youngblood single, Go Go Shoes b/w Go Go Place
Mitch is with Georgie Fame & The Blue Flames, UK
Noel, probably still playing in a group with Neil Landon? UK
    11
New York City, New York, USA
Around this date Linda Keith met Hendrix in New York City.
"The Village Voice" advert for the Cheetah club featuring their cheetah/woman logo: "with The Denims and Curtiss Night", equally large text, the Denims were a chart act, but Knight and his band were obviously seen as a large popular draw too.
12 Bob Dylan & the Hawks. Birmingham, Odeon Cinema, UK
12 Rolling Stones, BBC TV Centre, London, UK.
‘Top Of The Pops’, “Paint It Black”
18 New York City, New York, USA
The Squires were leld over for another week; a 2nd "Village Voice" advert for the Cheetah club featuring their cheetah/woman logo: "with The Denims and Curtiss Night" again. The next week Carl Holmes & the Commanders took over on 25th.

New York Post, a daily, was also used but almost no adverts from it have been made public. There must be NYP collections from this time frame, they are obviously more valuable to us for info than the weekly ads in VV.
I have no access to New York Post through 1966 (someone living in NYC? Please? Yes, I know research is very tedious - but Jimi's New York history, would a New Yorker not want to know? You have to check our the daily listings - small shit near the back page, that's where you might find additional Knight/Hammond/ Blue Flame stuff, adverts are not necessarily where you expect them, they are though usually grouped together over two pages at most. Fuck's sake! This period when Jimi moved to NYC was the most interesting /fundamental social rights change in US history bar the Civil War and WWs 1&2! Why are NYC fans not raiding the newspaper collections? You would not believe the effort I went to, to find out my (old) city's involvement in the story (ie Glasgow) in Scottish newspapers, but it ended up being a very enjoyable and enlightening experience, I could not help but see my history in those pages too.

I said I asked your mother
    Be-egged your father, “Plea-ease”
    (Mama, “Please”)
    Oh, yeah
    (Mama, “Please”-ah)
I said I asked your mother
    Be-egged your father, “Plea-ease”
    (Daddy, “Please, now”)
    Oh, yeah
    (Daddy, “Please, no-ow”)
They let you go out dancin’
    Try out your go-go shoe-oes
    (Go-go)
    Come on, baby, listen now
    (Go-go, baby)

    We’re gonna do the boogaloo
    (Boogaloo, ba-aby-y)
    Boogaloo, children, ooh

Come on and let me see you wo-ork
    (Now, baby)

    Come on, ow! shoot!

Well, if you really wanna impro-ove now
    Get yourself some go-go shoe-oe-oes
    (Go-go shoes, baby)
    Whoa, yeah
    (Go-go shoes the-en)
Well, now, you’re doin’ the latest da-ance now
It really, really puts you in a groo-oo-oove
(In the groove with my go-go shoes, baby)
    Haw-yeah-mmh
    Well, now take my advice
    Get yourself some go-go shoe-oes
(Go go shoes, baby, go-go shoes, baby)
    My-my-my-my-my-my-my-my baby oooooooh-wee!
    (Go, go-go shoes, baby, go-go-uh)
Come on, come on, put it on
    (Go-go shoes, baby, go-go-uh, go-go shoes, baby)
Put ‘em on, put ‘em o-on
    (Go-go shoes, baby)
    Oh, yeah
    Here we are, honey, ha-ha
At ‘The Go-Go Place’, come on
    Put your shoes on, mama
    Let’s get in the groove
    Everybody’s here
Look over there in the corner
There’s ‘Dizzy Miss Lizzie’, ‘Long Tall Sally’
And there’s my favourite, ‘Short Fat Fanny’
    Come talk to Youngblood, baby
Let’s get a thing goin’, oh yeah
    Looky there (wooh!)
Mamma’s got a brand new bag
Listen at the guitar player playing, babe (wooh!)
    Ain’t he whalin’ (Aah, man)
Everybody’s here, jumpin’ and havin’ a ball
This is the place to go, baby
You can shoot down and go to ‘The Go-Go Place’
    Oh yeah woo-oooo-woo!
    Look at ‘em jumpin’
    Come here ‘Short Fat Fanny’
    Dancin’ my thing
I love the way she moves

That girl is really somethin’ else
Let’s go, baby, time to go
Let’s get out on the floor
And just dance till the break of dawn
At ‘The Go-Go Place’, come on

Blow your horn Youngblood, blow your horn

*Very reminiscent of earlier Little Richard (and others) ‘go-go’ tunes. Even listing, as he (and others) did,
earlier hits with women’s names in the title. ‘The Duck’ is the latest of the dance tunes mentioned in a side
    involving Hendrix.
