Does colored vinyl affect sound quality? I always suspected it was WORSE than black vinyl.

If the material used is crap in the first instance then the colour will make no difference at all.

Black is probably the worse "colour" to add to vinyl it seems, as the carbon black additive to the vinyl actually magnetisers the record when its played as it reacts with the cartridge.

Its possible to demagnetise the record or buy Clarity pressings [the Jimi Hendrix BOG I have on Clarity is stunning btw].

As for the Barnes and Noble, it is as good a coloured pressing as I've heard but that's to be expected from QRP.

I think this indeed used to be the case. However, I would say for newer vinyl it depends. I have to say colored vinyl sure looks cool spinning on the TT too.

Here is my analysis of the colored vinyl I have:

Slightly Stoopid Closer To The Sun. Orange Vinyl. Really Awesome Sound.

Jim Hendrix Morning Symphony Ideas. Yellow translucent Vinyl. Awesome Sound.

Widespread Panic Live Wood. Clear/White Vinyl. Great Sound.

Jimi Hendrix Live At Woodstock (Classic Records). Orange Vinyl. Not overly impressed with this one. It's okay. I prefer the Legacy Blu Ray for sound.
