    1960

1960 Harvard University's Timothy Leary establishes the Psylocibin Research Project.
1960 ‘Payola’ is made illegal following the trial of Alan ‘the Moondog’ Freed
Johnny Brantley, record producer and the Moondog’s right hand man, used Hendrix and Lonnie Youngblood for several sessions in 1966.
    [Unknown dates?] 1960?
By the 1960s WLAC had switched it’s programming style towards the ‘black’ community. It’s powerful 50,000 watt signal broadcast rhythm and blues and gospel music to a wide audience covering the South, the East, and parts of the Midwest. It has been said that it could be heard in the Caribbean and Canada as well.
It has been claimed (by Billy Cox presumably?) that before he joined the 101st he took part in regular Saturday afternoon jam sessions at Starday/King Studios in Nashville, but this is over nine hours drive from Pittsburgh? Had he already moved to Nashville before signing up? Cox’ bio between Pittsburgh (‘where he grew up and learned to play’) and the 101st at Fort Ord is almost non-existant, apart from this tidbit. Apparently producer Bill "Hoss" Allen, (disc jockey at WLAC-AM), would tape the five hour sessions and from this, he supposedly would sometimes get something he could sell to a local label. The financial arrangements of this set-up are not explained, nor is any of the ‘product’ named.

The Titans (including Curtis Knight) release "Everybody Happy b/w What Have I Done" (Fidelity Records 3016) Fidelity Records was another label owned by Speciality [Little Richard’s label] owner Art Rupe.
Circa 1960-62 Curtis was a member of Charles Fuqua's the Ink Spots (calling himself Curtis McNair). This line-up of the group apparently released only one 45, Charles Fuqua's The Ink Spots (including Curtis Knight) release "Careless Love b/w Hawaiian Wedding Song" (Ford Records 115)

USA Chuck Berry is sentenced to 5 years under the Mann act. It is later cut to 3 on appeal, as it was agreed the judge’s racist comments prejudiced the outcome. He was freed after one and a half years. See earlier conviction of Lucille’s lover.
