(Page 22)Most-Donovan Pact in Works’ LONDON — Visiting American business manager Allan Klein, who represents U.S. interest of the Rolling Stones, Dave Clark Five and British in-dependent record producers Andrew Oldham and Mickie Most, set up negotiationsbetween folk singer Donovanand Mickie Most.
Donovan recently severed connections with his managers, agent and record producer. Since then his father has taken temporary control of his management; the Vic Lewis Organization is controlling his bookings. If he concludes a deal with Most, as seems likely, it would make up for the producer's loss next February of the Animals, who are switching toDecca's roster.
Donovan was due in New York last week for the "Tammy" TV show and was expected to sign the deal there at Klein's office.
Klein also talked here on a major film deal for Herman's Hermits (whom Most records). Klein has put to Herman's managers a deal worth more than $4 million for the group to make pictures for MGM for the next four years. Most would wax scores on all the films. Klein has bought the rights of Trevor Peacock's story "Mrs. Brown You've Got a Lovely Daughter." which would be their first picture. The American also arranged the return to Most of the Nashville Teens who quit his independent roster after two major hits over a year ago to join their manager Don Arden's Contemporary Records.

(Page 34) ‘Donovan Mgr.: There's No Most in Donovan's Future’: HOLLYWOOD—There is no deal under way for British folk singer Donovan to work with producer Mickie Most, claimed the singer's business manager Ashley Kozacks here last week. Kozacks refuted all claims made by American manager Allan Klein that Donovan and Most would work together in the future.
Since Donovan is in dispute with his previous managers— Peter Eden and Geoff Stephens —Klein is not in a position to make any deals," Kozacks said. Klein was quoted as having set up arrangements for the two principals.
Kozacks claims that Donovan wrote the managers he was terminating the contract which he called unfair. Eden and Stephens on Nov. 26 slapped Donovan with a work injunction in London, Kozacks said. On Monday (29) the prohibitive request was denied. The singer's finances are being held up[ie ‘in escrow’] pending legal action on the dispute. Donovan emerged as a British star last February and was with the two managers approximately eight months.
He was in Hollywood to film a performance for a teenage movie last week. Before the filming, Kozacks told Billboard he met with Klein in London on Nov. 25, at which time Kleinoffered him a deal. "I told him I was not inany position to accept any offers now but to put the deal in writing," Kozacks related.

BILLBOARD(page 28) LONDON — The Animals have been involved in a battle here to prevent Decca*issuing an EPof their early recordings [ie made when the were still called the “Alan Price Combo”]. The situation is a strange one since the Animals switch from independent producer Mickie Most and EMI to Decca in the New Year and major plans are already being mounted for their first release on the new label on Feb. 11.
The EP. "In the Beginning There Was Early Animals," was arranged byAlan Price, then organist with the group. It was not produced by Most who has already declared that in view of the Animals fairness to him he plans no further disks from unreleased material in his possession.
Animals' manager Mike Jeffries claims the tapes are his and the group's property, but that they were soldby a sound engineerto a middleman who placed them with Decca.
The Animals have set aside almost the entire month of January1 to record a new single and album. It is understood that they will produce their own recording in future, but they have asked Most to consider selecting their material.
*Decca (ie Dick Clark), were later to do the same shit with the C-Knight tapes
1JH also set aside considerable time to record Axis and EL

Welcome back to thls fabulous artist, who here shows that, when all the screaming and rocking is done, he can really sing the blues.
A double-sided opus, this is a man-sized hunk of the genuine article! Solo guitar opening, then into tempo with chords from the front line, which herald Richard's distinctively hoarse and throaty entry.

    It's soulful, bluesy and ultra-slow.
