JH playing a right handed bass upside down on leary's 'live and let live'

    t. leary's official 'live and let live' w/stills, sebastian, etc.
listening to the last 4min of the tune. i think that he may be playing a right handed bass upside down, without re-stringing it for left handed. his playing sounds kind of strange to me, and that may be the reason.

Well that's probably true. As his musician collegues say, he could play an ordinarily strung guitar upside down without a problem. What a guy.

Here's a link to another track with Jimi on Bass. Originally it's track 11 from "Unsurpassed Masters Volume 5" recorded at ElectricLadyland 15th of June '70.
With Jimi on Bass & presumably Dave Palmer on drums.
This is what McDermot wrote about it in "Ultimate Hendrix" :

Traffic's Chris Wood and Steve Winwood paid a visit to the studio and the two were so impressed with the facility that they decided to jam. With Mitch Mitchell no longer available, having departed some time earlier, the group needed a drummer on short notice. Kramer volunteerd Dave Palmer, a onetime member of Ted Nugent's Amboy Dukes turned Electric Lady engineer.
Palmer, who lived across the street from the studio, was rousted out of bed by a telephone call from Kramer. Palmer explains, "Kramer called me at two a.m.,saying, 'Hendrix is down at the studio and we need a drummer.Get your ass over here and bang on those tubs. 'When I got there, Hendrix and Kramer were showing Steve Winwood the place. Nothing was really set up, but Jimi and Stevie had the itch to play, so Eddie set up a couple of microphones and I got behind the drums and jammed with the two of them"

I had me some fun with this track, re edited it a little, and couldn't resist adding some guitarplaying myself. Of course my playing is far from what Jimi's would have been.
but it was great fun to do.

    Having fun with Jimi 2

    All the best,
