Jimi Hendrix - Tinker Street Cinema, Woodstock 1969-08-10 AUD (lifted from ATM 156)

    Jimi Hendrix
Tinker Street Cinema, Woodstock, USA 1969-08-10 AUD

Jimi jammed with Jerry Velez, Juma Sultan, unknown local musicians

    Lineage: 1st gen (?) > ATM 156 > flac

As requested, here is the most complete tape from the Tinker Street jam. I took this from ATM 156 („Kick out the jams").
I have to say that I enjoyed lsitening to the jams again...yes, the group plays pretty rough, but Jimi is in good spirits! Some nice guitar work, I also love the little octaver solo towards the end of The Dance. If the band just had been a little tighter :-)))

    Tracks:

    01. The Dance
    02. Sundance
    03. JL 13 (Earth Blues)
    04. Star Spangled Banner

Re: Jimi Hendrix - Tinker Street Cinema, Woodstock 1969-08-10 AUD (lifted from ATM 15

"...that man with a hat has been calling long distance with a problem saxophone...."

    Actually the line goes:
"...calling long distance on a public saxophone..."

Also when introducing members of the band Jimi used to introduce himself as
"...yours truly on a public saxophone"

I don't intend to correct everyone and everything here I I know I can get very annoying sometimes) but thinking of how many of us (majority?) are not native English speaking people and how difficult is sometimes to understand what's Jimi actually singing about I posted the above correction..
I'm sorry Raffael, if your intention was to say something completely different
and not to quote but actually paraphrase Jimi's lyrics from Midnight Lightning song.

but a problem saxophone is not bad.. and very hard to long distance call...

    american deserteurs organisation......
does that make sense? anyway, a deserteur is someone who flees from the army....not very funny....at least that´s what the army thinks. if you ask me, deserteurs have my full support :-)))

To understand some Jimi's remarks you have to know a few things about the historical background he lived in. In short about the 60s in America and generally, in the world.
1969 is a period of strong opposition against Vietnam war amongst the youth and many progressive people in USA. Remember the Cassius Clay (Mohammad Ali), world boxing champion who refused to go to fight to Vietnam and had to go to jail and lost his belt of a world boxing heavy-weight champion? To go to Vietnam (Nam, as they called it) you just have to be born on a wrong date - they had a lottery with all 366 dates of the year and if your birthday was drawn - you had to go to war - not very pleasant lottery. In any case, Jimi's dedication to "American Deserter's Society" made a lot of sense. It was a statement against the war and his support for all the people who were against it.
However, Jimi would probably have serious problems had he made such a statement during the USA date. That's why he said it in Sweden ...
    Very brave anyway...

Cool I don't think I knew about this one. Just to make sure, Are these tracks the same as the one's in the 3cd "Shokan Jams" ATM release? (

No problem Rafael. We're here to help you and everyone else understand. No need for apologies.
This site is here to spread Jimi's message of love and music and help different people to love him and understand him. So, don't worry, post whatever you like and if something is sometimes questionable, we'll discuss it. No big deal. Not everybody spend hours every day in "studying" Jimi like me - lol!
Not everyone's like that! Hahahahohohohoooheheheeeehiihi (crazy laugh)....

No, they are not. This was recorded in small cinema in Woodstock on the August 10th 1969. It was an informal live jam with local musicians and members of GS&R.
On the Shokan ATM discs included are only private rehearsals from the Shokan house (near Woodstock) where Jimi lived for the most part of July, August and September 1969 when and where all the tracks from the ATM 221-223 were recorded..

Excellent! Thank you for the info Polipus and thank you Olvatore for this amazing upload.

From the Shokan rehearsals I became particularly fond of "Sundance" and I can't wait to hear this version.

Edit: Wow, Been listening to this and I must say, the sound they make really took me by surprise, Getting an Albert Ayler vibe lol. Just when you think you've heard it all....

Thank! I think my copy is higher gen.
    The lineup is:
Jimi, Juma Sultan: bass, Earl Cross: trumpet,
Ali Kaboi: drums, Michael Carabello (from Santana): congas
    and José Areas (Santana): percussion.
    Wonder who plays sax?

    can you please upload this?

that's amazing that some of Santanas band members are on this. Has the line up of musicians always been known? IMO, this show doesn't get the credit it deserves, very loose but they really generate something, especially Jimi.

    I also like these jams.
The info comes from Juma Sultan (who organized the jams
at Tinker Street Cinema) via the Black Gold book.
Juma has a site online, "Juma's archives" with many recordings,
    but unfortunately no Jimi.
I tihink my copy is in lesser quality, but I'll check.
