Re: Jimi Hendrix - The Winterland Reels (ATM 208-213)

I love Hendrix but I'm not a huge JHE bootleg collector. I've been looking for a decent sounding earlier recording, and from what I'm hearing right now this is it. Even Jimi's vocals are pretty good. And I think this is my favorite period in terms of setlists and lineup of the band. So, thanks!

Obviously not, but since we have "thank you" button on every thread, isn't it easier to click on it?

    Did you?
    No.

    So what have I done?
Police usually have guns (except UK and India), legal and other powers
    and methods of enforcement.
I only post here, like everybody else.
Nobody have to listen to me (they don't) so what's the worry?

My stupid observations were worth just for this post of yours.
If I made you write the above - I'm satisfied.
Better than "thank you" in any case. (I mean it).

So, you like to write "Thank you".
What an appreciation!!! What encouragement for the uploader!
If you appreciate something, show it by writing a post of at least the
same size as the above one you wrote about something you do not appreciate.
What a paradox! "Thank you" for something you appreciate
and nearly an essay about something you don't!!

Considering "bringing (your own?) torrents to life" for those
who can't search and alike by posting something (anything?)
so the torrent would get upfront on the list.
What a practical idea! Wait until this idea of your gets around.

this is all the information I have regarding this particular ATM set.......

    The Winterland Reels (ATM 208-213 / 2003 / 6CDR)
(Winterland Arena, San Francisco, CA 10.10.68 [Complete 1st & 2nd Show] / Winterland Arena, San Francisco, CA 11.10.68 [Complete 1st & 2nd Show] / Winterland Arena, San Francisco, CA 12.10.68 [Complete 1st & 2nd Show]) Stereo Sbd; 1st Gen - Digitally Restored (Some phase correcting & Clicks from DAT Source removed) except 11.10.68; 1st Show: "Foxy Lady" (39), "Star Spangled Banner" (9) & "Purple Haze" (49): Aud (from 1st & 2nd Aud Source); 1st Gen
    notes:
    - Upgrade of ATM 011-016 "Three Nights of Winter"; The sound of this compared to the 2nd Gen used for ATM 011-016 is somewhat different. This version has more bass and it's also "dryer" in sound (less reverb) than the 2nd Gen version.
    - An earlier flawed version of this Set is also in circulation. That Set - sometimes also known as "Winterland Raw Source" and "A Raw Winter" - suffers from index clicks, DAT clicks and buzzes throughout, and was "leaked" to the general public by a mistake. The Clean version (this) has 9 tracks on Disc 4 (11.10.68; 2nd Show), while the flawed version only has 8 (same amount of music - just one less index mark).
    - A 2CD Highligts version of this set is available.

    I hope this helps!
    Bill

    From
    http://home.online.no/~hpjohnse/hendrix.html

    3 Nights At Winterland (Reclamation RECD 1013 / 2006 / 6CD Box / Ltd.Nr.Edition 673/2.000) ftbfs: B840
(Winterland Arena, San Francisco, CA 10.10.68 [Complete 1st & 2nd Show] / Winterland Arena, San Francisco, CA 11.10.68 [Complete 1st & 2nd Show] / Winterland Arena, San Francisco, CA 12.10.68 [Complete 1st & 2nd Show]) Stereo Sbd except 11.10.68; 1st Show: "Foxy Lady" (39), "Star Spangled Banner" (9) & "Purple Haze" (49): Aud
    notes:
    - This seems to be nothing more than reworked bootleg version of ATM 208-213 "The Winterland Reels". Some kind of sound processing has however made the recordings sound more like the ones featured on ATM 011-016 "Three Nights of Winter", although with the gain has been slightly boosted, and several "silent" in-between song passages have been edited out, making this set notable shorter and i.e. less complete than the ATM sets (although the purely musical content is the same). This factors combined makes this set inferior to ATM 208-213 "The Winterland Reels" in regard to both sound quality and completeness, and "The Winterland Reels" therefore remains the preferred choice as source for the Winterland recordings.

Oh yeah, forgot to answer that question. I've got the Whoopy Cat cd's too! The "winterland reels" sound better and are more complete, more tune-up bits. The whoopy cat version of Like a Rolling Stone (1968-10-12) is missing a couple of seconds. Obviously it doesn't have the complete 1968-10-11 1st show, instead of the last three songs there's another concert (1968-02-25, Civic Opera House, Chicago, IL) on it.

The winterland reels are a real improvement.
