    Wednesday 1 March 1967
London, De Lane Lea Music Ltd. JHE

    Rehearsal
    Producer: Chas Chandler
    Engineer: Dave Siddle

Like A Rolling Stone (Bob Dylan) (several takes) – unreleased
    Possibly others

Noel: “Difficult to get a good bass sound.”

Mitch: “I know it’s rumoured we did a studio version of ‘Like A Rolling Stone’. Now I don’t remember it, but it makes sense that we should have recorded it early on The fact that I’d forgotten these other songs means rhat things like, ‘Like A Rolling Stone’ might exisit, but I just don’t know. Hendrix was certainly a huge Dylan fan and he turned me on to Dylan.”

Chas: "I always wanted to do a studio version of 'Like a Rolling Stone. We did it a few times, but for some reason, Mitch could never keep the time right. It used to drive them nuts because Mitch would be either winding up or slowing down. The thing that bugged me about that one was that the first time I saw Hendrix, at the Cafe Wha? in Greenwich Village, the first thing he did was 'Hey Joe' and the second was 'Like a Rolling Stone,' and for the first time, hearing Jimi sing it, I understood what the lyrics were trying to say. I was a Dylan fan, but I had started cooling on him at the time he wrote 'Like a Rolling Stone.' It was the first Dylan song I was struggling with. So we both wanted to record it but we were never successful. I tried over and over to get it."

Frank Zappa: "Rock journalism is people who can't write interviewing people who can't talk for people who can't read."
