Monday 22 April 1968, Record Plant, New York City.
    19:00-05:00: 10 & 1/2 hours
Jimi - bass, drums, percussion, Chris Wood – flute, Mitch Mitchell – drums.
    Producer: Chas Chandler
Engineers: Eddie Kramer, Steve (surname unknown)

    1983…A Merman I Should Turn To Be (takes 1 - 4) - unreleased
1983…A Merman I Should Turn To Be/Moon Turn The Tides...Gentlv Gently Away (take 5, basic
    track) - (2, 3)

Jim McCarty: “Hendrix managed to evoke a feeling of the ocean. He told me that was the way he approached a song, especially if it was a specific thing like a house burning down or an ocean or a waterfall. His whole thing was visual. He visualised; ‘What do I have to do on the guitar to create a house burning down?’ That’s how he viewed the guitar, basically the same way as Picasso would view a canvas. He had an ability to pill it off because he was so brilliant.”

Kathy: “We were sitting on the bed together when he read me the lyrics ... ‘So my love Catherina and me decide to take our last walk through the noise to the sea, not to die but to be reborn, away from lands so battered and torn, forever...’ ‘What do you think of that,’ he asked when he’d finished. ‘I’m not coming with you,’ I told him, making him laugh. ‘You can go to the bottom of the sea by yourself...
‘1983’ had this strange, rushing, buzzing noise going through it, just the sort of sound you hear when you are tripping. He also talked a lot about ‘the other side’ and about death , which other people later interpreted as being about suicide, but was really only about being in an altred state of mind.”

Jimi – solo demos, with overdubs added to South Saturn Delta

    South Saturn Delta - unreleased
    Gypsy Eyes - unreleased

NB. 1983.. ( A Merman I should turn to be) refers to Jimi's Swedish girlfriend Catherina, not Kathy E.

I believe it was written round the same time as Angel, which has Catherina written at the top of the lyrics. Surely by Jan 68 Jimi would have known Kathy spelt her name with a 'K' and anyway was Kathleen? (I don't know how to put a smiley face at the end of this!)
