Midnight Lightning..... more post Experience recordings

Midnight Lightning was released worldwide in November 1975 by Reprise and Polydor Records

Highest US Billboard position was #43. It briefly made the UK album charts at #46.

The second of the Alan Douglas projects or albums of post Experience material and widly considered to be one of the worst commercial Jimi Hendrix releases ever. This time ,unlike Crash Landing, Alan Douglas decided not to give himself any wriitng credits for the 8 songs on Midnight Lightning.

Reviews were harsh ..."the producers of this jerk puppet series are perhaps of the family Frankenstein"..." the public should boycott such bodysnatching "..."Douglas has no right or wit to edit and refine what to Hendrix were formative musical investigations" ...."Midnight Lightning shows that in the eyes of Douglas and Warner Records Jimi Hendrix is not an artist. He remains a commodity to be exploited".

Once again "producer" Alan Douglas chose to wipe out the original musicians tracks that Jimi originally recorded with in '69 and '70...Billy Cox ,bass and either Mitch or Buddy Miles on drums with session players : Bob Babbitt on bass and Allan Schwartzberg on drums.

Guitars were also supplemented by Jeff Mironov and Lance Quinn.

Barbara Massey and Maeretha Stewart helped on backing vocals.

KD: Definitely the worst ever Jimi Hendrix commercial release. I'd go for the Jim Morrison
Scene Club Jam or any Curtis Knight & The Squires release over this one. Just Horrible

Very unusual German white label promo version with trick "gimmix" album sized cover/booklet

Front page is see thru image of Jimi and reveals name and Polydor logo on foil paper second page.

Also shown are color photos and some in B&W

All text is in German in this multipage book

    Note:title misspelled on label

I couldn't resist this Jamaican pressing of Midnight Lightening (SIC).
    (

(I didn't know there were Polydor Jamaicain pressings either)

same cover and catalog number as German pressings but with slight label variation and sticker on back.
