With all Messenger progress from October 18th discarded, The EXP preformed 15 new takes. Jimi & crew selected Take 14 as the working master and preformed overdubs, including a piano overdub by Jimi.

According to the WCSB liner notes, Untitled Basic Track was also recorded on this date.
There´s no mention of any other track apart from Messenger in Ultimate Hendrix, though.

I can´t hear any Buddy Miles on these two tracks -
maybe the photo credit on page 122 in Ultimate Hendrix is wrong,
and the photo is from another day (October 21, perhaps)?

According to the discography put together by Douglas Bell (page 422):
    http://home.earthlink.net/~ldouglasbell/jimi.htm
    http://home.earthlink.net/~ldouglasb...docs/jhe1a.zip
there exists a Collector's Disc titled Messenger that collects together all the unnumbered & numbered takes from this song's session date.
I'm desperately looking for a copy as I'm trying to put together a comprehensive "Studio '68" set.
Any help appreciated and I have much I can share in return.

Re: 1968-10-20 TTG Studios, Hollywood, California USA

Sunday 20 October 1968, TTG, Los Angeles – no gig
TTG Studios, 1441, North McCadden Place, Hollywood, Los Angeles, CA
    Noel: “Recording (nothing done).”
Block booked, ostensibly for recording tracks towards the 4th JHE LP, but in reality the sessions were just a big jamming party with his buddies from the West Coast and UK (Graham Bond, Andy Summers & Zoot Money of The New Animals, Jack Bruce of Cream, Robert Wyatt of Soft Machine and possibly others?).
Nothing from these sessions was deemed useable by Jimi. In fact, from ‘Rainy Day...’ (10th June) he apparently didn’t consider anything original he recorded in the studio releasable material - until a BOG session on 17 November 69 when he recorded the basic track for ‘Room Full Of Mirrors’, ie 1 year, 6˝ months later. After he finally decided to give Chalpin/Capitol their “free” LP.
    Producer: Jimi Hendrix
    Engineer: Angel Balastier
    2nd engineer: Mark Kauffman

    The Messenger (takes 1 -8)
The Messenger (take 9, playback – “rejected”)
    The Messenger (takes 10 -11)
The Messenger (takes 12 &13 playback – “rejected”)
The Messenger (take 14 -, playback – “rejected”)
The Messenger (take 15, “master”. Jimi - piano overdub recorded at slow speed for effect)

Angel Balestier: "The distance between Jimi and Noel was very apparent. It was sad. You could see it, it was so obvious. They kept two different crowds. 'They both would say hello to each other, but would keep to their own corners. When people would come for Jimi, Noel would withdraw. The sessions were peaceful, however. I never witnessed any verbal or physical confrontations, but the vibe was always there. Once they got to playing, though, it still worked."
Frank Zappa: "Rock journalism is people who can't write interviewing people who can't talk for people who can't read."
