Re: 1969-02-14 Olympic Studios, London, England

    Friday 14 February 1969
London, Olympic Sound Studios - No gig
JHE with Rocky Dzidzournu – congas*
    Producer Jimi Hendrix
Engineers: George Chkiantz & Ron [surname?]

    Ezy Ryder (takes 1-24, 26-35) (Takes 28* & 33*) unreleased
Ezy Ryder (39)/ The Star Spangled Banner (53) (music: John Stafford Smith)
Midnight Lightning (multiple instrumental takes) unreleased
    Slow Version (takes 1-5) unreleased
    Slow Version (take 6)
    Blues Jam At Olympic

Noel: “On the first day, as I nearly expected, there was nothing doing.”

George Chkiantz: "We did those sessions in Studio B, and I thought they were terrible. Hendrix was in a bad mood, but he wanted to come in and do something. Studio B was wrong place for Hendrix to record anyway, because there wasn't room for his sound to properly expand, it was incredibly difficult to record him there. Hendrix’ response was to double his amplifiers, which made it nearly impossible to hear anything in the control room. We stuck a couple of layers of screens between the studio window and the control room, but it ended up making zero difference. It was just stupid. He really seemed lost, and the whole thing was very sad."

Frank Zappa: "Rock journalism is people who can't write interviewing people who can't talk for people who can't read."
