I believe both War Heroes and Jimi Hendrix Soundtrack are also available on reel to reel, but haven't found pictures of 'em ...yet.

After 1975 or so, reel to reels were phased out leaving lots of my military service friends in the lurch as so many brought home very expensive tape decks(Tandberg),speakers and receivers from their tours of duty.

Lurch? How so? Original R-R's are the next best thing to the original vinyls. Vastly superior to cassettes and 4 & 8-tracks. And the equipment from those days were built like tanks. That stuff in good condition is prized!

    Lurch? (you rang?)

what I meant is there were no more pre recorded Reel to Reels produced by the major labels after '75 or so...
leaving you to record your own reels from vinyl ...... which kinda defeats the purpose right?
or leaving you with whats available

I toatlly agree w/ you about their sonic superiority vs. carts

what? You didn't own such equipment? Not an audiophile?

Most of 'us' (yes, I was one of them overseas tour of duty-types that splurged on hi-end audio) preferred the vinyls (they sounded better than the pre-recorded stuff and artwork package far superior) and would record them onto the reels. Resulting sound was as good, many even better, than the pre-recorded stuff. Plus we could put hours and hours of music on a single reel. Further, it allowed us to preserve our precious vinyl (we quickly discovered that during/after a 'bowl' many a vinyl would suffer during the flip-over). Still have some. er, uh - vinyl, that is.

A good 7.5 ips reel was, and still is, my preferred way to listen to a lot of stuff. The bass seems much more immediate. No crackles as on L.P.s, and no digital glitches.

Re: Jimi Hendrix on Reel to Reel tape

i had the pleasure of listening to some reel>reels when i took Tony Brown to a guy's house in Naperville,Il(forgot his name)he has the original mixing board he bought from PPX, which he bought at an auction, and he got some reels from Bob terry, that absolutely sounded like Jimi was playing live in front of me, i'll never forget the crisp clear sound....but i'm truely amazed at seeing all these lp releases on R>R but i guess since i did NOT own one, thats why i,ve not seen them b4

R2R's depended on the ips and how well you maintained your equipment. That said I have never heard a Pre recorded R2R sound as good as vinyl.
I'll list up my collection and try and post some of the scans I have. All of my pre-recorded are on my HD. One day they may get a collectors circulation thingy bob !!! Maybe ask Jellycat for some art :-)

Hope the scans attach ok, can't size them (they is wot they is from an external HD).
This is a 'mini' reel from Germany, 4". It's a four track recording and runs at 9.5cm / sec.
Polydor 3640 101 and interestingly states on the slip cover "Stereo also available mono".

Finally scored War Heroes today. Now the only one I don't have is the soundtrack from a film about JH.

Looks like these are a little too large, sorry but I can't resize right now. But worth a look imo :-)
