I only listen to shitty audience recordings 'cause they are often all we have. I'll listen to them all day long and never tire of them 'cause that's all we have for many, many of Jimi's shows. Or sometimes it's the only way to hear an ENTIRE performance.
That said, playback of any music to any music lover will always be in a format that "displays" the complete sound at it's finest (well as fine as your budjet allows). Would I want to listen to this show (Wes Montgomery) as a shitty aud' rec' when I can do it justice on 180 vinyl? I get to hear the PERFORMANCE in all it's recorded glory.

On my ipod ......... James Taylor "Sweet Baby James".
A vinyl rip of the Steve Hoffman remaster.
A pressing that is now on my short list (of 3, alongside Desire, Dylan and Veedon Fleece Van Morrison) of "must find" to play on the TT.
Yep, the remaster is smashing :-) Never heard it so good in all these years.
