Listening to: "Goodbye to Romance," 2010/2011 remix from Blizzard of Ozz remaster.

For anyone who might be interested:
As far as I'm concerned, this track and the last (titled "RR," a tribute to/outtake of Randy Rhoads) are the only songs that are really listenable on the new CD. Everything else is mastered so effing loudly...it might not sound bad coming from a cheap stereo set, but I'll never be able to listen to (for example) "Crazy Train" through headphones. What I've listened to of the new Diary of a Madman remaster is the same - maybe worse.

Please don't say I'm going off OP, just a slight expansion.
Often I find myself reading while playing CD's so while I'm listening to Rory Gallager's 2cd set " Notes From San Francisco" I'm reading the 2012 edition of The Rare Record Price Guide.

I'm on a minor Led Zeppelin kick right now, listening to the 2007 compilation set Mothership (great). But fail to see where Pagey's reputation as a guitarist comes from. A riff-meister for sure, but limited technique and feeling.

^ It wasn't just about great riffs, it was also about great songs, brilliantly executed by all concerned.

Well I agree with that. The band was more than the sum of its parts.

Because he's awesome? He sounds much more multi-dimensional to me than most of the English guitarists of his generation. I respect his musicianship and his excellent production of their albums...his playing never sounds stale to me. It's all a matter of opinion/personal tase. That being said...as much as I love Jimi, Jimmy's my main man.

Listening to: "Jam 292," take 4 from Hear My Music.

More than Jeff Beck during Beck's second peak as a guitarist in the early 70's? Blow by Blow ring a bell? I've always like Page but he seemed "average" at times due to his copying other peoples stuff and calling it "british blues".It's my opinion only that a great lead guitarist can play solo and command attention.I view him as the glue that held Led Zeppelin in place. I know he has played solo fashion before? I'm not bashing as I have Led Zeppelin discs that I do love to listen to. I can also point out he's sitting in the audience at Ronnie Scott's not the other way around in Jeff Beck's Blu Ray release a couple of years ago of "Live at Ronie Scotts" which I'm getting ready to listen to!
