Actress Hayley Atwell, currently starring in ‘Captain America,’ reveals that a long-rumored and talked about Jimi Hendrix biopic featuring Andre 3000 of rap group Outkast is edging closer to becoming a reality.

Esquire spoke with the 29-year-old star about the movie, which has been in development for a number of years. She said that the proposed project would be an independent film with Andre 3000 portraying Hendrix.

As for her own attachment to the film, Atwell is unsure at this point, saying that she and her “team” are taking a “let’s wait and see approach” in regards to any possible involvement.

The Hughes Brothers (‘Menace II Society,’ ‘From Hell,’ ‘The Book of Eli’) were linked with the planned Hendrix flick to possibly direct when Andre himself spoke about it in 2004 with Entertainment Weekly.

At that point, he said that one of the things he was looking most forward to was the chance to re-enact Hendrix’s rendezvous with the Plaster Casters, groupies who made plaster sculptures of famous rock and roll male genitalia. Hendrix famously had trouble getting “relaxed” enough to extract himself from the molding afterwards.

IMHO-- Andre is not the right guy to portray Jimi and even though I like Hughs brother movies, I would prefer someone else like Martin Scorsese or even Oliver Stone direct and cast a Jimi biopic. This movie if it is ever made- needs to have an A list cast and an A list film budget.

I'm all for it. I've enjoyed other artists being portrayed in movies. Obviously its not the real thing, but I think its still interesting.

I agree but please Keep Oliver Stone Away lmao, The Doors film sucked & a lot of people accept that oliver stone jim morrison monster as the real guy even to the point when people imitate & or take the piss out of Morrison it's really the Val Kilmer Jimbo character they copy.
Anyway with everything having to meet Janey's approval it will be a director that wont include anything raunchier than Jimi having cups of tea & cigarettes in a london apartment

As we all know, "Hendrix" was the worse piece of cinema and in no way portrayed Jimi. That being said, Andre 3000 would be a good fit for the role. He has the body, the hair and can talk the talk as well (imo)... The only thing we should care about is that there is someone out there who is willing to do something for the real fans out there like all here. Unlike Experience Hendrix who cant even keep promises and give us just one film (RAH) we should be optimistic in all of this given the circumstances on their part as a company...

if they are going to do it at least i hope its done right like "ray" or "the doors"...

that showtime movie they did some years back was just atrocious...

im not so sure of his acting chops but andre is built very similar to jimi and he also has much the same facial features as well as being soft spoken like jimi...i also know he is a really big fan of hendrix so i dont think he would be a bad choice with the right director and cast behind him...

i wouldnt mind seeing a jimi biopic but i dont want to see some half assed production either...

Biopics NEVER do justice to the people they are trying to represent...and the problem is, is because they TRY to REPRESENT, and this is where they fail...
In the case of the Hendrix film - Hardcore fans like ourselves just get pissed off at the inaccuracies, which, as people have discussed in regard to Doors film - actually STAND IN for those that the film is representing...most people associate the performer with the film version...and that is NOT the performer...we are better off without them as MourningStar says, we have ample footage...and that is where a real Hendrix experience lay...getting the real stuff out...

Speaking of which - I have a dream - have had for many years...to make a Hendrix film that is composed of available footage...which is narrated by Jimi himself using interviews etc,not the same old stuff but trying to make use of a lot of underutilised interview stuff, and all sorts of video footage, 8mm, 16mm and so on...which, with the technology of today - you could actually create composite footage of Jimi in different scenarios etc utilising films we have which could be transformed into an entire film...I am think, off the top of my head, the way that the Beatles Free as a Bird video was made 16 odd years ago...but making use of all the stuff we've got at hand now...I had been thinking of this for years! In fact with the internet, I was wondering whether it was possible for Jimi fans to work on it collectively, or to create a section of the film as "proof of concept"...all fantasy, but certainly do-able, and now that we have all of this extra footage sync'ed up thanks to JamminJimi etc - we have more and more stuff that could really be utilised in said film...
I'd much rather something like this, than a stupid biopic!

Another fictional movie is not needed, more live concert footage would be a better use of EH resources, a nice chronological time line of all footage from 66-70. A best of series released on DVD, I think funkydrummer we are almost on the same wave. Imagine......the best footage from pro shot film, television footage, and try to cut out all that zoom in zoom out real quick that seemed to be the fad, hate that shit, disturbs me. Wow, sorry for the rant.
