    Estate Denies Biopic Rumors

Jimi Hendrix estate denies biopic rumors

    Friday, July 22 2011, 12:53pm EDT
    By Jennifer Still, Entertainment Reporter

Jimi Hendrix's estate has slammed rumors of a possible biopic documenting the legendary guitarist's life.

Experience Hendrix - the group that administers the star's posthumous affairs - has blocked the use of the rocker's music, likeness and any additional copyrights made by Hendrix during his lifetime, and said that the project cannot go ahead without its express permission.

CEO Janie Hendrix told Undercover.fm: "[We have] made it known many times in the past that no such film, were it to include original music or copyrights created by Jimi Hendrix, can be undertaken without [the group's] full participation."

However, she went on to reveal that a documentary about Hendrix is currently in the works, adding: "With Sony Legacy, our partner, we are active in releasing documentary material starring, so to speak, Jimi Hendrix as himself, and plan to continue on this path."

Outkast member Andre 3000 was recently said to be in talks for the role of Hendrix in the biopic. Lenny Kravitz and Laurence Fishburne were previously linked to the role.

Jason Derulo also claimed earlier this year that he had turned down an opportunity to portray the guitarist.

Her statement is strategically worded to indicate that multiple documentaries are planned. WCSB, apparently, is the first in the series. It is clear as crystal that a 'biopic' will never happen without EH sanction. Therefore, dismiss this and any future 'biopic' announcements that do not provide an EH connection.

I side with EH on this one-- I just dont think there is an actor alive that could ever capture the essence of Jimi

I thought Jim Caviezel did an alright job...he was still way too European-looking, but that movie was alright. (Except for the blue-faced demon...that was cheesy as hell.)

Without this getting into a lengthy (and pointless) theological debate: He played the incarnate form of the Judaeo-Christian deity. "Son" is a strange term to quantify when you're speaking about supposed cosmic entities...

    I prefer Robert Powell's take.

Just thinking about Outkast's Andre playing Hendrix makes me cringe.

KD: Exactly what I've said all along. Without EH's approval and access to Jimi's music and / or publishing this is
never going to happen. The story will of course be white washed if it ever comes out. The alternative would be
a film about Jimi that doesn't have his musical performances or songs. Who'd want to see that? No one.

    Re: Estate Denies Biopic Rumors

Perhaps this is a bit of dream...but I wish there was a film about him that really captured the spirit of who he was and his talent. I was re visiting the Frida Kahlo film, although she is a very different of course..! it really was a great success capturing her spirit and her work (albiet a bit toned down because she was v. radical). Of course it helped it was made mostly by Mexicans and she was such a national hero to them.

I wish there could be something that could achieve the same for Jimi. That's what Id hope for one day. But I dont think it will even be in my life time.

KD: It would be akin to seeing either the recent Johnnie Cash or Ray Charles bio pics with NO songs by, or performances by
either one of them, which is of course they only reason these two films were successful or anyone wanted to see them
    in the first place.

There as a TV biopic on Showtime a few years back that was not licensed through EH.
The story was poorly written, the acting was terrible, and there was no Hendrix music.
    It was basically unwatchable.

You can check it out on Amazon...If You Dare!
