So, is it so that there are 2 hours of new unseen footage, that has not been available before this new version?

Re: There are 2 hours of alternate camera angles on the reissued Wight dvd

The 2002 ran 154mts and the 2011 181mts....may not se selling too well...
the 2002 version is selling for more than 3 times the price of the 2011 version.
It is an upgrade to the Definitive Monterey format....with added angles for 8 songs(4 were in pic in pic on the 2002 DVD)
this allows us to watch separately or bounce around the stage while viewing the performance(which I think is a nice feature..I'm betting they do a Woodstock in this format some time in the future)
'Hey Joe'..yeah 4mts...single camera view....and they did include 3 more songs in the multi-angle
feature...we get 3 separate views of 'All Along The Watchtower'..
3 separate views of 'God Save The Queen/Sgt. Pepper' opener..and a 2 camera view of "In From The Storm".
so there is more new footage than just 'Hey Joe'...but you'll only notice it if you watch
    the angles separately
    2 hours of UNSEEN footage...NO
2 hours of extra-footage....that can only happen if you watch all the angles separately....for ex:'Red House' ...10mts(give or take)
3 separate full length videos...yeah...that would be a total of 30mts. video just for 'Red House'
same deal for 'Machine Gun'...but these views are still seen in the picture in picture mode of the original.
but I did see some new(to me) footage in the angles in the added 'In From The Storm','All Along The Watchtower' and 'Sgt.Pepper'.
some nice views of Mitch playing from camera next to Billy....some stage hands running around...can see some more
crowd interaction ...more full stage shots...some funny moments of Jimi checking his pants(Foxey Lady) getting pissed off at one of his pedals at the close of 'Spanish Castle'...but I think these are seen in the small view on the 2002 as well..I just never noticed them before...something about watching them full screen and going back and view from another angle...some good shots showing Jimi's interaction with Billy from camera behind Billy...and some shots seeing Billy's response from camera behind The Who's monitor system next to Jimi. All in all the extra full screen angles seem to bring more of a complete view of the stage and what was going on up there.
If you don't have one....this is the one to get for the going price.
I already own the 2002 so I 'grabbed' the 2011 to see the difference 1st.
Well that's my view on it...
If I had $10 bucks to blow...I'd get it.

For anyone who hasn't seen it yet, the Hey Joe footage has finally turned up on YouTube: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=h37_rE_Zrs4
I'm sure it'll be taken down soon enough!

Man, I love that shot of Jimi on the right and that bright light shining on the left of screen as he's taking his first solo. God damn I wish I'd seen him live, lucky bastards who did!!

I know there is a few more in the update version....that are not in the main film....but I think all the angles shown in the '2nd Look' on the original DVD(the pic in pic) are used in the updated one...we just get to choose to watch them full frame and change around it we want to while the performance is going on....
there is for sure some new footage in the 3 added songs....
Ist just to clarify.....'Hey Joe' I consider as 'unseen' footage....
Now say 'In From the Storm' footage....it was filmed and we have had for years...so this would be not considered 'unseen'...however if you look at the new angles added for 'In From the Storm' you will see 'new' footage.
For EX: the infamous 'tossing his strat down at the close'...the main film shows it...
however in the 2 angles we got on the update DVD...one angle(from next to Billy) shows Jimi tossing it down from another view(this is his supposed favorite guitar???)....this is not the view used in the main movie...so I consider it 'new'...there's a bunch of this kind of 'new views'...I haven't spotted them all but noticed this one right off.

So what was the point of hidding the hey joe footage for 41 years. Lots more stuff is also hidden in the Archives.

    Thanks for that link, Cuboid.
Nice bit of Rolling Stone's 'Satisfaction' riffing at 1:55 to 1:58. :-)

It's a shame that all of this attention is given to such a dreary performance. Bring on RAH!!!

It wasn't that damn dreary, he has some great moments throughout. Wrong time to have him play but oh well, we still get to see him play! He adds a lot of different runs and improvisations to a song I'm sure he was tired of playing so many times. Love the wide angle view as noted above!

Mmmmm what't the chances that Midnight Lightning is sitting on some digital shelf somewhere? I suspect as soon as Jimi said "we'd like to play a slow blues" the cameramen all switched off and thought "naaaa"

The Hey Joe is great. Anything jimi did was pretty magical, always some cool touches. I've heard this millions of times now cool to see it! As far as missing stuff, either the crews took a break all at once, or some reels just went missing over the years. I'm guessing the latter.

Now that I think about it didn't they say the same thing about the Maui 30 July 70 concert yet more footage magically appears on Youtube. I find it rather ironic that film footage supposedly destroyed in a fire has become a Phoenix 40 odd years later.

not really sure what you mean by the 'end'...to me MG is in 2 major parts...
Part 1 before the drum solo interlude and then Part 2 after....
both DVD versions only have multiple for the 8mt version(part 1; as like the album version 'Soundtrack for Film About Jimi Hendrix') of Machine Gun...
there are a few differences tho'...being EH has the 3 views going at once(neither complete)
the SL has 2 separate (tho' they seemed to have made a composite of the 2 to make a complete alternate angle)used ..
    ex:
    Attachment 14806
notice the upper right video here...
is not used in the same spot for either angle on the EH/SL DVDs.

    Attachment 14807Attachment 14808

Now of course ,the 'main' movie jumps all over.
    J.L.
PS: just for the heck of it I even looked at the AD DVD to see if there is some differences...
the AD DVD only has part 1 and not even all of that either...
but I did catch a scene on the AD that is not on either the SL or EH...
comes right after Voodoo Child...there is a short sequence showing Jimi smoking(this is the cigarette seen in part 2 MG(EH/SL DVDs) on the strat headstock)..while saying he's "gonna stay here all night"...
    Attachment 14805Attachment 14809
turns around, looks at his arm(like he looking at the time)..puts his smoke on the amp...Barret removes the Univibe of stage...Jimi switches to the V...comes back saying sorry about all the tech, problems...then says 'were gonna start over'...goes into 'Freedom'..
the EH/SL has the 'were gonna stat over' after 'Lover Man' .
I think he was hoping taht removing the Univibe from the effects chain and switching guitars might remedy the tech. problems...but as you see at the end of 'Lover Man'..he was quite pissed.
I never noticed him dropping his pick after 'flight of the bumblebee' either....LOL

    EH/SL - Machine Gun -> Lover Man
AD - Voodoo Child -> Freedom

    EH - experience Hendrix
    SL - sony legacy
    AD - alan douglas
