Wow, I listened to a part of the audience tape and I notice a complete intro of beginnings. Quite a long intro. You guys forgot to use that material in the merge you made.

Can't remember if I said thanks for this...so thanks! Very awesome indeed.

I especially love the integration of the aud recording for the beginning of "Hey Baby" - I've gone ahead and mixed that with the official mix from the purple box-set...and I'm in heaven.

maybe not. 'Complete' is not part of this title.

Unfortunately the taper pushed the play button very late, perhaps he missed a few bars. But I'm sure we hear a lot of the intro we don't hear on the soundboard tape.

Re: Maui Wowee - Bob Terry Tapes

    Hi
I was surfing this thread while dl'ing the BT and JP versions to compare with my into the clouds i made from atm 18/19.
Atm 18/19 is sbd 2nd gen. So i'm going to compare these newer sources and see if there is an improvement I can make to Into The Clouds. I'm looking for any additional chat between tracks. And I'm interested in the drum snair being a little less prevalent. Also looking to see how much clearer the JP master sounds compared to the atm 18/19 2nd gen sbd.

Of course I don't really want to patch in multiple sources so much. ITClouds only uses the aud "first pressing" "slightly stereo" of a clean copy of that first bootleg vinyl to make it complete. Completeness Rocks! The subsequent pressings of that boot (which one I forgot, I don't think it was the Trademark Of Quality version) are completely mono. This left the set more contiguous with only two sources used.

My next post should answer my own questions hehe. I'm looking to see if the newer sbd would be better. Would it meld with the aud source better? The aud source is still the only place to find the beginnings of three songs correct? HB1, DD, and JBATHouse

Another point is ITClouds does not use any movie film sources. They are not intrinsically inferior, it's just they aren't very complete. We have to wait for EH to release the whole film haha lol good luck... For what's it's worth I like the sound of the show in the Rainbow Bridge movie the most :-/

    Any suggestions would be great with regards to what sources I can use now, many years later, to improve Into The Clouds? The rules of the game are;
less harsh or up front snare, more like the RB movie would be ideal.
clearer, lower gen sbd sound, crisper
no film sources (bc there isn't enough of it)
able to redo with only 2 sources (a bit of a third source is ok if unnoticeable and unavoidable)
Any more chat between songs. (not interested in "stage air" unless Jimi is tinkering and tuning or mitch is bashing, or Billy is strumming).
p.s. did anyone else patch in the first note of Dolly Dagger yet or is it included on one of the newer sbd sources now?

p.p.s. If I remember right I heard read that the sbd didn't pick up the drums bc they needed a track to sync the film with, much like Woodstock, and was only very very slightly picked up by a stage mic. And also that Mitch did drum the whole show in the studio only 2 months after Jimi died.

OK BT and JP downloads are done. Now to get some beer in me, crank it up really loud, and see what I might be able to do to make a second improved version of Into The Clouds. RevA if you will.

A most amazing gig, extremely precious and must be treated with the up most care and love.

peace and thanks for any advice knowledge

After listening to JP's version, if i redid Into The Clouds, I'd make it the same way but with his source tape, it just sounds better than atm 18-19.
