Something you really do need to read.

    Who's kidding who?
Here is a leaked RIAA report that makes interesting reading.

I think people are running with this a bit too much - the ultimate problem comes down to sales, which (sadly) don't seem to exist all that much.

I also find the "15%" number to be highly dubious: I don't personally know anyone else (aside from myself, my dad, and [occasionally] my uncle) who pays for their music. I don't think the report (if real) took into account the amount of people who rip god-awful sounding music from YouTube.

You can add me, I buy Janie's Hendrix stuff, not everything, but most.
I'd by more if she gets her act together and stops fucking about with this re-releases shite (new Berkely exempted!)

Haha. I was probably talking out of my behind a bit on that one - let's say that there are very few people I've met in person (aside from the people I've mentioned, and the very few people I've cashed out at Walmart - the other cashiers always remark on my habits when I buy a CD) pay for their music.

Those box sets costing $150 plus deluxe CD packages costing over $25 are stopping some people (like me) from buying music I would like to own. If (for example) the Pink Floyd Immersion sets were under $100 and Aqualung box just had the CD and BluRay minus the LP there is another few sales. Add this to all the other music fans who are not rich and there is a lot of potential sales if the price was right. I will say Experience Hendrix does have competitive prices on the music. I do buy most of their releases.
I am at the opinion the majority of music downloaded is crap like mp3s of Bieber, GaGa and other disposable pop kids like.

£8 for the new Berkeley DVD is pretty good value. It usually costs £10 or more to see a movie

When you consider the amount of music you often get from the sets - sometimes totaling well over ten hours - the higher prices don't actually bother me that much. That being said, your general point about CD-pricing - their being too high - is something I agree with: Single discs should rarely be over $5-$10, instead of the $15-$20 range which they usually occupy.
