Two Great Experience Together - APE+Art - (FIXED)

These are the same files as on recent Dino77's torrent just without WAVs plus some loud clicks repaired and artwork added.

    Jimi Hendrix & Lonnie Youngblood

    "Two Great Experiences Together"
    (Maple Records LPM 6004, USA, 1971, 1LP)

    - All tracks are directly transferred from the original LPs by Dino77**
    (**only track 12 is sourced from CD and tracks 15, 17, 18, 21, 22, 25 & 26 from collector's data CDR)
    - No EQ or effect of any kind has been applied
(few clicks repaired with Cool Edit Pro by E).
    - Artwork included (by E).

    - Lineage:
Turntable -> Edirol R-09HR (Roland?) -> WAV - Cool Edit Pro 2.0 (manual removal of some loud clicks) -> APE

    Original notes by Dino77:
I also included the remaining tracks featuring Jimi and Lonnie Youngblood
not present on the original LP. So here are all the released pre-experience
Hendrix/Youngblood tracks except for two newly discovered versions of
"Sweet Thang" by other singers. Of course, Youngblood is not the main
    performer on all tracks.

    - Recording info (thanks earlyhendrix.com):
Abtone Studios, New York, Spring 1966 (some even in 1965?).
    Engineer: Abe Steinberg
    Producer: Johnny Brantley, Lonnie Youngblood
    Arrangers: T-staff and Lonnie Youngblood

    - Musicians:

    Lonnie Youngblood - saxophone, vocals
    May Thomas: background vocals
Ace Hall: bass on some tracks
Napoleon Anderson (aka Hank Anderson): bass on some tracks
    Jimmy Mayes?: drums
    Richard Poindexter?: piano
    Gino Armstrong: vocal
    James Stokes (The Icemen): vocal
    Billy Lamont: vocal
    Jimmy Norman: vocal
    Rest unknown

Thanks Emil. You're a star. Wish I had your skill at editing. I have an hysterical Pat Boone LP - Pat Boone Sings Guess Who - which has a lot of surface noise. It's so funny but try as I might I can't remaster the wavs to make it sound good.

Yes Steev, from "the beginning" is I'm afraid the only way because I re-encoded the files to APE to get as small size of the files as possible. Also, every track was "touched", some more some less.

If you read the info-text yo could already conclude that it's not.
In the meantime two "new" vocal takes (with different singers)
of the "Sweet Thang" have been discovered.
    What's definitive in life?

True, "definitive" is a very subjective word...

The new vocal takes are by one Lenny Howard and one George Scott.
The producer who recorded the Hendrix/Youngblood sessions, Johnny Brantley, had a practice of using the same backing tracks for different songs by different artists. Thus, Wipe the Sweat take 3, as included here, is also used as the backing tracks to "Sweet Thang" by Billy Lamont and the Howard/Scott tracks, with new vocals. There are many other similar examples with other Brantley productions. So the "new" takes (I have heard the Howard song) are not that exciting. Would be nice if someone
with access to the Howard/Scott vinyls could add those tracks to this collection anyway, but they are incredibly rare.

You're right Dino77, of course, I've written that these contain only new vocal takes in my previous posts which implies that they are not something we (Jimi's fans) can't live without.
This compilation is indeed very close to be the definitive one.

Thanks a lot for this one, can't wait to hear it.

    Just a note:

    01. Wipe the Sweat, take 1 has fake guitar (added in 1971)*, it has a cleaner/higher sound than Jimi's.

There is a take 1 is on the "Two Great Experiences" cd without the fake guitar, but also has Youngblood's vocals pretty much removed from the mix.

    11. (I Wonder) What It Takes, take 3, mix 1 ("Psycho") (The Icemen)

This track also has fake guitar and sax overdubs added in 1971*. You can tell the guitar right away - it's the high distored sounding guitar (which is terrible by the way).

    09. Under The Table, take 2

This track has fake guitar too added in 1971*. In the middle of the song - it's the high distored terrible sounding guitar.

Yes, it's hard to find these without overdubbs (even faint).
The "Two Great Experiences Together" CD is uploaded here:

    http://crosstowntorrents.org/showthread.php?t=163

At the time of the upload I did not have the original artwork.
For the original artwork check here (posts 13, 14 & 15):

Truly awful overdubs. But no one who is even a little familiar with the Hendrix sound would take this playing for Jimi.
As explained in another thread - the version of Wipe the Sweat on the cd is not without overdubs - it's one channel of the song. Try listening to one channel of this version, you'll get the same result.
A tip - look up earlyhendrix.com for early info on Jimi - Electirc Gypsy was great when it came out, but we now know that it contains a lot of innaccuracies regarding the early materil.

    Yes, very true.
I think the guy who made these over-dubbs is the same one that plays on
most fake Jimi tracks like "House of the Rising Sum", "Voice in the Wind",
"Good Feeling" etc... all scattered on albums like "Rare Hendrix", "Free Spirit",
"In the Beginning", Jimi Hendrix" etc... (there were hundreds of these vinyl albums on the market in the 70s and 80s). I even think I've read his name
somewhere....there was even an interview with (or about) him I think
    (anybody remembers more about it?).
