    Ambassador Theatre - 12 August 1967 - Univibes research

I got this circular from the big CG:

Quiz Question: How many times did Jimi Hendrix burn a Stratocaster on stage?
    Correct Answer: Three times!
First time: Astoria, London, 31 March 1967
Second time: Monterey Pop Festival, 18 June 1967
Third (and last) time: Ambassador Theatre, Washington D.C., 12 August 1967

“Everybody thinks we do it every single time we perform… Like I’ve burned the guitar three times out of 300 gigs we performed. That’s a small percentage...”
    (Jimi Hendrix – Hollywood, 18 August 1967)

UniVibes magazine is currently researching an article detailing the last time Jimi ever burnt a Stratocaster guitar on stage. Although we have already interviewed several people who witnessed Jimi’s burning act at the Ambassador Theatre, we would like to speak to others, including:

    * Joel Medwik and Court Rodgers (co-owners of Ambassador Theatre)
    * Andy Goldberg (local musician)
    * Bill Havu (drummer in the band Natty Bumpo)
    * Other members of Natty Bumpo (the band split up in New York City, early 1968)
    * Bobby Radcliff (local guitarist)
    * Anyone who witnessed the burning act during the JHE show on Saturday, 12 August 1967 (second show that night) at the Ambassador Theatre
    * Anyone who took photographs of the JHE at the Ambassador Theatre – note: there were 10 (or possibly even 11) shows in total – between 9 and 13 August 1967.

Carl Zaner went to other shows at AB that week and does not recall the burning (only the smashing). The prob is there were 10 or 11 shows in 5 days, so unless somebody kept his ticket (none found so far) it's ultra hard to pin down which show on which day they went. Nils Lofgren went on 13-08-67 so did not witness the burning. Etc.

    Nils Lofgren memories:

Is there a way to contact these cats:
Samba C. (says Jimi jammed at the Showboat afterwards...)

Chris Patent (says he saw Jimi lit his guitar; must find this guy for more info!)

C.G could have posted this himself.
Will he name check CTT in the article or will he take all the credit for himself :-)

Sounds like pish to me, why would an impoverished and very busy musician set fire his guitar at an obscure gig - an audience that was mostly children we are told. Why not New York! in a well publicised regular summer event with huge attendance. And there is virtually no contemporary testimony to this alleged burning. He also said "two, or three" times in one interview.
There are umpteen "witnesses", inc. some famous names, to JH burning his guitar at numerous other gigs, which are obviously pish, so . . .

To the point FF. I think we all realise, on past behaviour by him, he'll just take all the credit

Whatever. CG has helped me out on many an occasion so I can do him a favour or two back.

I came across this image of a flyer which has to do with the Ambassador gigs. Anyone got a better scan?

Why not, we not good enough for him?
I have a lot of respect for C.G. For the time and effort he has put into Jimi research etc. I know him well :-)
He is also a member of a number of forums so he can post here if he wanted to.
So Yazid, you are incorrect to say Caesar Glebbeek does not use forums. He just refuses to identify himself on forums which is a different matter all together.

Jim, I have no problem with you doing a favour for a Jimi friend. Cool. But C.G has been known to take information posted here and claim credit for himself is all I'm saying. A credit where it is due goes a long long way. Imagine if he didn't get his name check in an article, wouldn't hear the end of it, lol.

Do you want me to post his username here? That can be arranged!
Reading a forum is also 'using' a forum.

The thing is, CG tried very hard last year to get CTT shut down.
It apparently hurt sales for UV....at least in CG's mind.

Please don’t compromise yourself Johanincr. You have more integrity than that and what would it achieve?

    Twas a rhetorical question FF...

What would CG achieve by being able to contact all those guys he's looking to contact though?
Them not ever wanting to talk about Hendrix again to fans or collectors - exactly how it happened with several people during that 'Jimi in Italy' research? Once again i can back it up...

I'm sure it's been mentioned elsewhere, but who was the drummer who took Mitch's place at the 10th & 11th shows?

I'm wondering if the problems the site is having with the pictures etc, has something to do with C.G. I know he caused a lot of problems for jimpress some years ago with copyright issues with the picture they were using at the time. If he wants to know why the sales of univibes are down, maybe it's because the cover price has gone through the roof. You have to pay more for one issue now than what you paid for Electric Gypsy when it first come out. Ultimately C.T.T. is the future because of the nature of the internet, instant and easy to update any information something that a periodical can never do. Keep up the good work C.T.T. !!!!!

This is why he hasn't gotten a cent from me for years, the price he charges is a joke. He does some good work but I'm not here to fund his retirement. I'll pay a fair price for anything but what he asks isnt fair IMO.

Re: Ambassador Theatre - 12 August 1967 - Univibes research

I certainly remember his issue with Jimpress, he made a right tit of himself with that one :-)

I wont offer him much if any support, he brings on his own problems but the price of an issue of a fanzine, be it Univibes or Jimpress, is an expensive business. It does not help when he adds a few pages to an issue and charges twice the price though.

Maybe more folk will be pulling the plug on UV subs after stunts like that.
