Looks like "The Electric Guru (Slight Return)" is a closed group. Can someone post some info here about the tape? I'm listening to the soundcheck now...sweet! The idea that this has been unheard until now is insane!!!!

Re: NEW TAPE! Vancouver September 7, 1968

    Intro/Tuning
    Voodoo Child (slight return)
    Hey Joe
    Are You Experienced
    Come On Part One
    Little Wing
    Foxey Lady
    Red House
    Fire
    Spanish Castle Magic
Purple Haze ( tape ends before song is over)

Jimi opens up with a "Hello Canada" and you know those lucky Vancouver folk are in for a special treat.

VCSR is a solid opener if there ever was one. Jimi introduces it as a track off of the new lp. Hey Joe is very good but not as exciting as in Phoenix, though.

Red House absolutely smokes. Jimi dedicates to the family Eddie Pearl? I couldn't make out the name. It is superb. Jimi wails. There's some tasty wah sprinkled throughout. It is worth the price of admission alone.

    AYE is excellent too.

Come On has a great, unique intro! It is scorching. The sound painting between LW and FL is very unusual.

It's a "mono experience" but....who cares? Get it!

    The Jimi Hendrix Experience
Vancouver, BC, Canada September 7, 1968 chat

    Mitch:
Hello, alright, yeah, nice to be in Canada, right.

    Jimi:
    Hello Canada, how you doing.

(guy close to the mic: "Move over rover, let Jimi take over!")

    Jimi:
As usual, about every performance that we do, like it's, look at us right here something like that, it's songs that we take and improvise on.
Right now I'd like to say please hold on for about a minute and thirty two seconds, because we have to adjust our equipment. It's worth it, alright? OK? Thank you.

(tune up time with a great riff, Mitch is nailing down his drum set)

    Mitch:
One two, could you turn this up a bit?

    Jimi:
We're getting close to that time to start (laughs), it'll be about two more minutes, then no more waiting.
Anyway we'd like to do this song, first of all, it's a thing called Voodoo Child, and it's recorded on our new LP, called Electric Ladyland. It's a double LP. It's nothing but a very very straight rock, y' know, it's a very straight rock and roll song. Nobody be (...........................)

    (Voodoo Child Slight Return)

    Jimi:
Thank you very much for staying this long.

    MC:
Excuse me Jimi, I'm trying... Could you sit down please, the people in the back can't see. Now let's be fair, everybody paid to get in. Just sit down, thank you. Could you sit down, please? Wherever you're standing, just sit down. Just sit down, thank you.

    Jimi:
I'm sorry for tuning up, but we like, slightly tune up between every song because we're, like, trying to play. Because we really care for your ears, that's why we don't play so loud.
And uh, let me continue on with a thing called Hey Joe Theme.

    (Hey Joe)

    Jimi:
Right about this time, we'd like to ask a certain question, from you all. I'd like to ask you one thing, and we'll try to ask you in music form. It goes something like this here.
(crowd yells for Purple Haze again)
Hey, wait a minute man, wait a minute, we've heard all these songs you're calling before, we're going to play all of them. Just wait a minute and let us do our gig, alright?
Because listen man, what do you want us to be, like uh, slaves to the public or something like that? Because we've been playing for two years solid straight and we haven't had any rest at all, and your just screaming is not helping us at all. We're trying to play and get ourselves together, alright? Thank you very much.

    (Are You Experienced?)

    Jimi:
I'd like to play another track that's from our LP, it's called, let's see, Come On Part One. Oh excuse me, Come On Part One. It was actually written about ten years about by this cat named Earl King, in New Orleans. We'd like to try to jam this and everything, alright? We've got a whole lot of time for the other mess, all the other Mickey Mouse, Foxy Lady...

    (Come On Part One)

    Mitch:
    Thank you very much.

    Jimi:
(tune up) Guitars are going so bad, you know. (strums)
I'd like to do a song recorded on the Axis Bold As Love LP, a thing called, um....

    (Little Wing)

    (Foxy Lady)

    Jimi:
I'd like to do this blues for my family, Auntie Pearl, 'cause she asked me to do this, so we'll try to do this for her, and for the rest of my family. And the hallelujah section. Or the right now quotient. It's called Red House. It was done on our first Are You Experienced LP that was released in England, not here. It goes something like this here.

    (Red House)

    (Fire)

    (Spanish Castle Magic)

    Mitch:
    Thank you very much.

    Jimi:
I'd like to say, I'm very sorry, but like, this cold is killing me man, so bad we cut the show short and uh, do the last one now. I really am sorry. What can I do. OK, we've got two more last song to do, then alright? There's a group, wait a minute, there's a group that is broken up got a song out, called the Cream. And it's a very bad shame that they did, because they're a really outtasite group. So we'd like to do one of their songs and, like, dedicate it to them, and we'd like to do it as an instrumental.
No hell no, we're going to do Purple Haze, thank you very much and good night.

    (Purple Haze)

    from the above link:

The Jimi Hendrix Experience played at the Pacific Coliseum in Vancouver on Saturday 7 September 1968, just prior to the release of Electric Ladyland. His grandmother, Nora Hendrix, was in the audience, but ended up moving from the front to the back because it was too loud. “Well, I knew he had music in him,” she said in a later interview, “but I didn’t know he had that much music in him.”
