Foobar is great because you can personalize it and have a lot of functions like tag, convert, show cover etc...

    Re: Media Players

I have dbpoweramp reference with DSP effects and their player, I haven't learned to use the effects/options yet but it looks powerful. dbpoweramo has got to be the easiest software I've ever seen for adding codecs, the downloads almost always install the components themself with no manual work. I would recommend anyone to check into this product and see how it can satisfy their needs.

I also use Foobar, mainly for it's ease of building a music library to view according to folder structure. Customizing this software seems unusually complicated but there is lots of instruction pages on the net to get it done. I love the library flexibility and currently am interfacing it with my archives. The player works very well also, and if I remember correctly will play from CUEs/images etc without having to decompress them. Great software and free.

    Re: Media Players

Just a note to state that the newest version of Foobar has been updated to include audio cd writer. Nero is no longer going to be required to be installed to burn a cd.

However I and others have been unsuccessful in getting the new cd writer to work. Even after installing the windows Imapi software update I still get the following error: Audio CD burning process failed: Unknown error code (0xC0AA0208). Hopefully an update will soon be available to fix these bugs.

Here is a list of the newest updates including file integrity verifier:

    2009-06-21

Multiple optional components have been updated.
Masstagger (version 1.8.2): Added %now% in "format from other fields", various cosmetic changes.
File Integrity Verifier (version 1.0.5): Fixed focus stealing upon completion, added display of calculated audio MD5/CRC32 values.
Audio CD Writer (3.0): No longer requires Nero to be installed. CD-TEXT support is currently missing.

Foobar just keeps getting better! http://www.foobar2000.org/
